Sainsburys is nice, but too expensive.

Tesco is my market of choice at the moment.

Shopping? Depends what I'm looking for.

If it's clothes, usually Burtons.

Car parts? Halfords.

Mobile phone accessories - Carphone Warehouse.

Computer bits - Mike O Soft (Swansea Market)

Aftershave/toiletries - Boots.

Food shopping? Ah yes, Tesco :)

Since you would like us to speak proper English I would expect the same in return :p: BTW your MSN space suffers from the same lack of spellchecking too ;)

You didn't have a multiple store choice so I can't vote.

I shop at Tesco. Good prices, good quality food, and a wide range of stuff to buy in the Tesco Xtra stores. I have one nearby that does music, dvd's, etc, and even some of their clothes range are good too.

Sainsbury's is nice too and I do sometimes go there as a change from Tesco, but they are more expensive.
Their "Taste the difference" range is lovely.

I use Morrisons because it's cheaper than ASDA and TESCO, when I've been to ASDA orTESCO I allways spend over £120 per week on shopping, the shelf life of food was no good either. We decided to go to Morrisons our weekly bull dropped to £70-£80 per week plus we got more for our money, I did the price match thing with ASDA and compared till recipts, I photocopied them and posted them off to our local ASDA asking them why ASDA is more expesnive than Morrisons?

It's been 3 months now andI haven't heard a thing, but I noticed that our local ASDA have started selling things on bogof you use than selling things you don't use.

ASDA and TESCO cheap? No way, try Morrisons you'll be supprised.

You know you've reached civilisation when your local supermarket is a Waitrose ;)

It's Asda or Morrisons(was a Safeway).I don't like Asda's own products but I did like Safeways own brands. Not so with Morrisons. However they are cheap and if I avoid the branded goods that are truly terrible it's not too bad.BTW do NOT eat any of the Morrison's own brand Baked Beans, they taste sulphurous and smell just as bad.I also avoid the chilled range as much as possible. They were not so wondesful when it was a Safeways but they are even worse with Morrison.

I wish there was a Tesco's nearer than Tichfield or Cosham. It's not cost effective to have to travel that far to shop. :(

The other choice is Waitrose and that's one bright spot.I can get better products and unusual things there and Morrisons,Safeways,Asda and Tesco can't match them for really specialised stuff. They are even better than Sainsburys or M&S.It's a pity I can't afford to buy ALL my shoping there.

We used to go to Tesco in Toton, only a few miles down the road :)

Tesco for me. Sainsbury's are thieving barstewards, Asda are a little too cheap for me. Narrow aisles, and a limited selection of 'continental' items' Generally, it's Tesco for us with an occasional trip to Sainsbury's for the rarer items.

Halcyon
12-12-2005, 01:20
Since having a Tesco about a mile away from me, it is much easier to shop there. Its a Tesco extra so it means I can get a DVD or other items without having to go into town.
By collecting the points with the Tesco card, I also get money off on my travels on the Channel tunnel so thats good.
I shop there weekly. I'm happy with the food and find the qulity is there. Even some of the Tesco value items are good too.

I do my shopping at Asda, although I wouldn't say it's in any way a "favourite", but I go there because I got fed up with the local Tescos (where I used to shop) discontinuing the products I wanted to buy, so I went somewhere that did sell the stuff I wanted.

Angua
12-12-2005, 09:23
We are missing Sainsbury's on the poll? Which I use most often.

I voted for Asda cos I do a big shop once a month there.

And Waitrose is so clean and nice but I only go in if I am feeling rich.

Can't abide Tescos, never able to find what I want and the shelves/floats feel opressive.

Nugget
12-12-2005, 09:32
?????? it is a multiple choice poll

Which is still no good if it doesn't have all of the choices in ;)

For the record, we use Asda for our main monthly shop but, seeing as Sainsburys is just round the corner,we use that as our local shop if we need stuff like bread and milk.

I'm totally fedup with the big supermarkets, especially their sell-by dates on food products... I used to get a big shop once a week to last us a week! but judgeing by the sell-by dates, it all as to be eaten within the first 2 days or less... its just a rip-off to get you back there spending more money on more crap within the same week.

since I got rid of the car (it died) I cant get to my huge asda and tesco, so I do most of the main shopping at morrisons, we seem to spend less there because they dont have a wide range of crap to spend on, their food isnt that good either. the one thing we have noticed, we aren't spending, eating and as stressed as we normally were when I had the car. :) I thought life would be hell without it... but we are all still here and surviving. I'm on the lookout for another car, but to tell the truth, i'm enjoying the break from taxiing everyone about. so have decided to leave looking til after new year :)

I might even start to grow my own food? but then again, being on the 15th floor doesn't help much ;)

maximum 'life' of the chilled products that the company I work for manufacture for Tesco, etc, is 6 days from date of manufacture. Distribution means that the worst case product should have at least 4 days shelf life left, in store, so if you are finding only 2 days, it probably means people are selecting the longer life packs, first.

- of course it is possible to extend shelf life using preservatives, antioxidants, etc, but then people accuse the industry of using too many 'artificial' ingredients....

We use Tesco, because it is the nearest & most convenient, although for food we would prefer M&S or Waitrose, however, M&S aren't open when we need to shop & the nearest Waitrose is 30 miles away.

Can I have a vote added for Sainsbury's if it gets a choice?

Sainsburys nudges it over Tescos for me, but only cause its a little bit nicer to shop in. I will be going back to Tescos tho, cause everyone keeps telling us how Sainsburys is more expensive.

As for Asda, well if only they smartened up there store down here a bit. Ive tried it 3 times but hate the ambience of the place....

I dont use supermarkets, i prefer to by local produce, it really doesnt work out anymore expensive and the quality is 10 fold better than supermarketsThere are many people who only shop at their local corner shop. They say that the local produce they sell is far better than that offered by the supermarkets. They also say that although the prices are higher than what supermarkets charge the overall cost of the weekly shopping bill is roughly the same because they don't have to pay for the expense of getting to the supermarket. The instant coffee may be 16p dearer at the corner shop (£3.45 instead of £3.29) and the pack of toilet rolls 6p dearer (£1.75 instead of £1.69). But that extra 22p is far less than the cost of petrol to get to the supermarket.

But they are missing several important facts.

Their local corner shopkeeper is probably one of the supermarkets best customers. The fresh local produce he is selling is no different to what the supermarkets sell. He is probably at the supermarket early in the morning buying his needs from their home bakery and produce counters. He is carting away large quantities of BOGOF items such as the instant coffee which has a best before date a couple of years in the future and which he is paying £1.65 per jar and selling it to his customers for £3.45. A hell of a profit margin for him. You could also be buying for the same price as him if you bought from the supermarket. If you pick the right time to shop at the supermarket, weekday mornings when the tills are quiet you will probably see your local corner shopkeeper struggling out with his loaded trollies and cages. He has possibly bought up their whole stocks of some of the BOGOF offers leaving the empty shelf which you see when you are cursing because you were not early enough to pick up the bargains.
