Playing US films on a UK PSP

Hi i was wondering my friend at work has a psp and bought a film on e-bay turns out its usa and he cannot play it but cant find out how you do,anyone got any ideas thanks in advance paul.

way's around it if he has a 1.5 or earlier PSP but unsure if it falls within the bounds of the law :o
