hey everyone,

Where is this phone number to, which part of the country I mean.

0207 993 4698

I know the company, I just want to know which part of the planet I may be calling. I need to phone them tomorrow morning.

in the website, it does not explain where they are. it says .co.uk and sells items in £s but they actually convert this to $s and then you get charged for the conversion from $s to £s: confusing I know.

0207 = Central London

However, the 993 prefix seems to be for voice over IP, so it could terminate anywhere in the world.

0207 993 xxxx looks like a range used for voice over IP, so it could actually go to anywhere in the world where there is an internat connection.

7993 is a central london VOIP number, I have a Vonage number in that range. You get charged the usual cost (or inclusive rate) for calling that number, just like you get charged the usual cost for calling a roaming mobile number.
My Vonage VOIP number is also the termination number for an 0845 number so I have a virtual phone number pointing to a virtual number, wierd or what.

Shaun

You'll pay the same as any other 0207 number, but the actual phone could be anywhere in the world.

I have a 0116 216 number that is listed as VOIP, it just so happens that I'm in Leicester (where 0116 normally routes to) but I could have picked any UK std code and still had my phone located here.

On the other hand I can take my box and plug it into the internet anywhere in the world and people will still be able to call me for the same price as a call to Leicester.

Edit- beaten to it!

They are fab things, mine also has a virtual US number in the same area code as relatives over there, they dial a free local call to route through to my phone in the UK.

Ok,

guys about that number, it says the mailbox is full and cannot accept new messages at this time.

ok, the jist of it.

I have bought a camera from https://www.mydv.co.uk/xcart/home.php

and I have sent countless emails, and I have tried them 3 times today, cause I want to cancel, as they said all I would pay would be a certain amount, and that it was fast.

I am paying more, cause they convert the £ to $ and then I pay a conversion rate from the $ to £. so I am paying about £20 nore, which is not been mentioned on the site.
also I know I have 7 days to cancel my order, and I am within the 7 days.

what should I do?

Could send him a letter
http://www.samspade.org/t/lookat?a=www.mydv.co.uk
or just keep on calling till they answer, if it's a company routing calls to the US you may want to tailor your time that you call them to suit the time difference.

If you have sent them an email cancelling the order, could you not simply refuse delivery if they try to ship the item?

You may also want to get in touch with your credit card company to make sure no payment is taken.

I have emailed all the email links, and one looks promising, some guy called Max apparently cancels orders by email, but some people are on the phone for hours before thtey get someone.

I have phoned anyway, and the mailbox is full.

I will wait for a reply by monday then go to my bank, to lodge a complaint in against them.

there is nothing in the website that says I have to phone to cancel. but ttrading standards in the UK say I can contact by email.

Ouch, if it is a vonage number that means there are over 100 mails in that inbox, though if he is getting them by email and forgetting to clear them down from the box that could be why it is full.

I know pual,

I have sent emails to evry email I could find for the company, and I have contatced my credit card company.

I have to email them my email of cancelation and they will store it as a dispute, and they will deal with them after a certain amount of time, if I have not had a refund.

if I do get the good delivered I have to refuse them and not to sign anything and that means that the comapny will have to take notice.

Interesting ... could you clarify, what advice has your card company given you? Have they taken your word for it that the transaction you made with mydv was dodgy?

I'm not saying it wasn't, just that I would have expected them to ask you to write to them alleging an offence against the Sale of Goods Act and reminding them of their joint liability under the Consumer Credit Act &c &c &C :D ... very good of them if they've just decided to go for the jugular and refuse to pay this company based on you phoning and asking them!

chris,

I told them that they have taken the payment, and that they have charged me extra, they said there is nothing they can do, until I told them that they would not contact me, I cannot get a hold of them, and explained that it really is an american company but kidding on they are british.

they sell in £ but take the $ equivelant, and then you pay the conversion rate, at this point she said they cannot do that, if they advertise in £ they must take the money in £ then they have to convert, at this point she believed me.

she told me have I cancelled, which I said I have and she said that if I print out the cancelation letter or email, and send a copy to thtem, and a cover letter explaingin what is happening, thtey will take it further and try to get the money back if it is not in my account by 31 days. She said they will pursue, as I have used my legal right to cancel.

I got an email from MyDV tonight this is it:
We regret that you have decided to cancel this order. A cancellation request has been submitted to our order fullfillmant department on your behalf.
You will receive an update pertaining to this request from our order fullfillment department shortly.

I would send this off to the CC company ASAP. I think the lady you spoke to was right in that the whole £ to $ thing is illegal. The CC company (I believe) can cancel the transaction. From what I've read on the site Paul posted earlier, people have lost out on refunds.

do any of you know who sends the item, jessops or some other warehouse company, cause I have a package here and I am not sure if it is from jessops.

I phoned the delivery company, and they said the company that sent the item is unipart tech logistics, Coventry.

is this used by jessops?

I have not to accept anything if the MyDV company send any item, as my credit card company is going to dispute the cancelled sale.

Hello, i ordered a digital camera to the total of £269.99 on mydv.co.uk last week also! wondering why they did not reply to emails or calls, i searched on google and discovered all this!!! how upset am i, as it was on my dads card, the camera is meant to be my xmas present!!! i finally got through, and asked for the item to be cancelled and refunded, they agreed and said i would receive a email confirming this...as yet i have not!

Found this website which is good...
http://www.mydv-ripoff.co.uk

i got my dad to contact the credit card company and also emailed various dv email address's threatening legal action...
it is disgusting that this website is allowed on the internet!!

welcome sara.

Well I will PM you all the email adresses you should try and send them the same email.

I got a full refund minus 50 pence, but not bothered about that, but I fought hard for that.

if you have internet banking set up, this is very useful.

1: Take a screenshot of the credit card used, and show them that you actually paid said amount, but the web site said you would not incur extra charges.
2: tell them that they are selling/trading in pounds sterling £ but actually dealing in american dollars $, this is not mentioned anywhere on the site, so the company should incur the exchange rate.
3: tell them that you are taking this transaction up as a dispute with your credit card company (but you have to cancel within the first 14 days, i think, and the credit card company will fight to get your money back but only after 31 days has lapsed from the time of cancelation).
4: don't be overly agressive, but polite and to the point.
5: attach the jpg of the bank card transaction with those emails.

it will take them a while to get back to you, but they will get back to you.

if they give you so much back but not the full whack, then give them the same email, with the second transaction stating that you spent £so much and you expect £so much back, regardless of the exchange rate.
and let them know that you will contact our credit card company of the small but paltry try at a refund, and that you will be contacting your solicitor to start proceedings in a small clams court, to have their company dissolved and declared bankrupt as they cannot give a proper refund.

with the last paragrgaph, I got an email within 1 day with the rest of my refund, I take it the solicitor part helped.

good luck and don't give up.

ik
