Just recently, my PS2 has started refusing to play DVDs in true 16:9 anamorphic widescreen. The system config is correctly set, but when I put a DVD in, it starts to play in 4:3 letterbox and uses the TV's zoom setting to fill the screen. The display menu during DVD playback is set to 4:3 and is not changeable. I can stop the DVD, go back to the sys config screen and it's still set correctly at 16:9.
I know I'm a cheapskte relying on mt PS2 to play DVDs instead of buying a proper DVD player, but I decided some years ago that I wouldn't get one until proper DVD recorders were affordable so I could just replace my VCR. I'll probably do that in the next few months, but in the meantime, this problem is really annoying! Has anyone experienced this, or got any ideas for fixing it?
