I'm sure one of the experts who use broadband through a STB will be along soon to help, question though, would a stand alone cable modem be any better for you to use?

Well i never asked customer services as they just connected me straight to my STB as I have digital television with them too.

Don't know for sure if it will work any better through SACM, but might be worth ringing them, and see if you can have one fitted. Although, they may or may not charge an extra fee doing it this way.

Well I ahve never had any problems with a STB so I don't really think that I need to change it.

Never suggested you do:)

My question was: would a stand alone cable modem (SACM) help you with your speed problems?
This SACM would be used in addition to your existing STB, not instead of, if you follow.

Sorry, this is just the first time I have had any problems with my internet, not bad considering I have had my internet with NTL for like 3 years :)

Perhaps he's overstepped his cap by what NTL deem to be too far and thus they have dropped him down onto 512k for the rest of the month like they said they'd be doing
