With all the threads on smoking/not smoking I thought a snapshot poll of forum members might be interesting.

I am a smoking...scarily been smoking for a decade as of my birthday in a few weeks. Have set myself a deadline of giving up by my 25th birthday.

Never smoked, despite my sig. Just a little hip humour...

Given up but still get tempted if I'm out in a smoking crowd at the pub.

Still after April up here that won't be a problem any longer.

I gave up 15 years ago no place in the poll for me ;)

Rats! I knew I missed one :D

Now you are a true non smoker!

Perhaps a kindly passing mod would add a Stopped smoking "over" 5 years ago to the poll!

Smoked since I was 18, gave up for 6 months recently but got stressed at work and re started... (silly me)

When the time is right for *me* I will do it again though.

Been stopped for nearly 2 years. One thing i am not is a hypocritical ex smoker going round mouthing it off about how bad smokers are :).

Have one of those in my road

Only problem was, there was more than one category that applied.
Hence it will be difficult to come to any conclusions.

Smoked for >5 years, gave up a few years ago, started again, and still trying to give up.

I nicked a couple of my mum's cigarettes when I was in my very early teens and tried it, but it did nothing for me, so I never even started smoking really. Plus I realised that I'd stink of smoke if I did, plus it'd cost me money....

Never smoked, and never ever will.

Never seen the attraction or point of smoking, so never tried it and never will.

Why did people start?
Was it because they thought it looked cool?
Peer pressure?
Bored?
Didn't know they were harmful or addictive?

Well, I certainly didn't need any help looking cool ;)

Never smoked, and never intend to.

Like the majority (so far) I've never touched a lit cigarette in my life! Can't see the attraction myself. Could have been converted a 6th Form when a friend asked me to keep an eye on his ciggie, but I declined.

Where does Angua stand on this, having started the poll?

I smoke, although to be honest don't really enjoy most of them, and intend to give up sometime soon, as I would hope to live long enough to look after my grandchildren as my daughter (which I haven't got yet BTW), will no doubt be on benefits and not be able to cope with the football team she will have before she is 20. :D

Never smoked, and never ever will.

I admire the fact that you have never smoked and please don't ever start but how can you logically say never.

I have found the results so far pretty much match the general population. But I am most pleased to see no one has started (or admitted to starting) within the last five years. :tu::tu::tu::tu:

Having been a 20 a day person for nearly 30 years who finally quit almost 2 years ago. I can see things from both sides, those who say they never have smoked and never will are not tilting at windmills in so far as the overwhelming majority who smoke started in their teens. As both my parents smoked it was far more likely that I would (both my older brothers still smoke :( ).

For those who have quit :cleader:

To those of you who are still trying to quit I say "don't give up giving up"?

And to those who still smoke "hopefully you wil reach a point where you are fed up with smoking or being controlled by the weed sooner rather than later"?

Have to echo what Russ D and Xaccers said

Never smoked, and never ever will.

Never seen the attraction or point of smoking, so never tried it and never will
Where is the fun/enjoyment/attraction of putting a burning "stick" into your mouth, then breathing in smoke, and then ending up smelling like an ash tray?
Never did understand all that, and thats growing up with both parents who smoked.

My Mum gave up smoking about 8 years ago I think, and she is terrible for doing just that. She is so hypocritcal of smokers, really winds me up.

I am suprised there are more non=-smokers than smokers. Certainly doesn't seem that way to me.

Yeah, I'm the one of 10 people that doesn't smoke at school.
But I'm the only one that never tried it...

With a seemingly active User Base of 2,300 or so members, 71 votes on a poll is hardly a widespread selection of members :)

Yes, but smokers tend to be more noticeable than smokers, punky. Everyone (especially non-smokers) notices someone who's puffing out smoke and an unpleasant odour - but who notices if you're not?

Trust me, I know plenty of non-smokers who puff out an unpleasant odour - it just makes it harder to work out who stinks ;)
