Well, i never thought i'd post a thread here needing help and advice on NTL Broadband, what having used to work in the TSB.

Anyway, i seem to be having serious problems at the moment downloading from American Sites. I've a family friend in the US who puts vids up for me to download for my parents from time to time, i'm getting 100kbps max from him and a couple of sites i have a pay for registration with all appear to be going at 50-70kbps on the download.

I'm on 3mb Broadband and have no problems at all downloading from UK based sites, only the yank ones, tracerts to the states are also going through the roof.

Is anybody else having similar problems right now?

Thats the one direct to my friends Site. i've removed his IP as i dont want it to be public knowledge. It seems like a very big hop to me.

I've had a couple of friends check things to different american sites and they seem to be having similar problems.

Well it's fine until it goes from Level 3 Manchester to Level 3 Los Angeles - that jump looks a bit big, even considering its across the pond.

Indeed.

All the tests i've done to other sites appear to be doing that too.

Its just ruddy bizarre because i'm not having any problems to any UK sites at all and friends are also having problems, don't know if theres a routing issue somewhere or whether theres something more serious going on.

Your outgoing route may be different to your incoming route.
Ask your friend to trace the route to your puter to see what that might reveal. My guess is you might see heavy packet loss on entry to Ntl's network especially from about 4.00pm GMT onwards.

That would suggest that it's something that has always been happening and it isn't the case at all. The problem has only started to occur in the last couple of days. Had no problems at all before that.
