Is it going to affect current Blueyonder customers as well, since NTL bought Telewest?

If so, then they can **** off and I'll get uncapped ADSL2+.

I hope they drop the whole idea of caps. Broadband should be unlimited.

No idea, but I doubt it. Well, at least for now. The merger still has to be approved, which'll take time, & even after that I'd assume that they'll still have separate networks for a long time (look at ntl now...still has an "original ntl" area & an "ex C&W area").

Hopefully they'll give more info soon on what will change (if anything will change).

There are a couple of pages at the ntl website which say that ntl services and Terms & Conditions will remain unchanged.

Obviously doesn't mean that TW won't change to match ntl though, but:

Although I couldn't find a related Q&A for residential customers at the Telewest website, there is a page for Business customers which says services & Ts&Cs will not change

Technically speaking existing customers have contracts with Telewest and if NTL buys it then they should respect current contracts with existing customers.

But I hope that should there be even a talk of having caps for Telewest customers then we will all unite and respond to this threat appropriately -- some say NTL does not enforce its caps, but enforcement always comes after some time, they just getting people used to idea that caps are fine (because they don't get enforced), once this happens enforcement commences.

With cable companies providing broadband the way that it is at present there will have to be usage restrictions of one sort or another applied in the not so distant future. Speeds of 10 mbps cannot be sustained with unlimited 24/7 usage. The merger of NTL and Telewest does not alter the physical capabilities of the system and usage restrictions would have to be applied to both companies customers even if they had not merged.

according to [url="http://www.telewest.co.uk/ntl_telewest_agreement.html"]this (http://www.ntl.com/home/ukcable/qa.asp) page, there'll be no change to services or ToC for TW customers.

Of course we'll have to see when existing customers 12 month contracts expire once the merger is totally complete.

Contracts don't expire after 12 months -- they still remain in force, its just the customer gets an opportunity to cancel it. AFAIK the only reason Telwest can cancel contract if its broken, ie for non-payment.

Because of the merger I dont see how NTL could give the old NTL customers a cap and the people in ex telewest areas unlimited. It wouldnt be fair on the old NTL customers giving them unlimited and old NTL customers a cap when they are the same company.

if they introduce caps im off.
the only reason i bought tw was cuz of unlimited service
although i supose acap greater than 70gb would be acceptable

You're obviously not aware of what happened when ntl bought out Cable & Wireless's residential division.

ntl have a history of treating 'bought out' companies customers as 2nd class citizens I'm afraid, & I really don't envy current TW customers.

well if they do they can get stuffed.
anyway, if i loose the blueyonder service
(i need my @blueyonder.co.uk email address)
and get it replaced with any nthell **** i will be cancelling contract.
Honestly, i want my service to stay exactly the same. i wish this merger had never happened.

It is entirely possible ntl decide to carry on telewest as it is so not to alienate the current customer base, it would create more of a postcode lottery service over ntl's coverage area but that doesnt bother ntl now so it is possible. I wouldnt worry until changes actually start happening.
