Yesterday an ntl engineer bought me round a new ntl250 modem. as my old NTL:home 200 was havin wierd conflicts with Internet browser webpages.
Anyway, the guy just plugged the modem in and check i was getting a syc and ready light.

anyways i i plugged the modem in via ethernet.
but wen i try to connect to the internet. nothing. it just sais connecting to then goes to that "page could not be found"

the funny thing is. evrthing looks as if its working. i am even able to ping websites and get a response. my ip is assighed by dhcp
everything appears how it should.

the ntl CS didnt know wot to say. they registed my new modem macadress, and said try connection 2mrw. ive left it 24 hours and no joy

able to ping, the computer sends and recieves packets
but no browsing, email msn etc

some 1 pls help me there must be some setting on my pc.....
thx

:welcome: to Cableforum.

First, have you got a firewall running? Try shutting it down.

Second, what's with the links? If you wanted to link to something in another forum, you just need to link to it once.

hi blymy..

you haven't said if you succesfully went through registration or not ??
when you say you have a dhcp assigned IP address..if the last set of digits are between 248 and 253 then its a pre-reg IP address which would explain why your able to ping but not browse.
are you able to get to here https://80.5.178.26/ ???

Sounds like the winsock problem. Only had this problem on Win98 though if you are running that.

You might aswell try it - http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/Network-Tweak/WinSockFix.shtml

following on from that, if the answer is yes, your going to need to speak to tech support to have the Cm's on your accounts swapped over, engineer should have done this bit though...

What IP address are you getting? If it ends 248-254 it's only a temporary IP so you won't be able to browse (well only the registration site anyway!) until Ntl have registered your modem properly. Give them a call to sort it out if that is the case. :)

Beaten to it! Dohh!

I have removed the links from the original post as they added nothing to it, and there was no need to link that many times to the same thing.

Modem registration issue, get ntl to sort it, case closed :)
