I've never looked into getting my PS2 online so I can't make a recommendation. GT4 is taking up a lot of my spare time at the moment though :)

The best online game for the PS2 is Socom II which is a team based 3rd person shooter. Socom III is out sometime in the next few months which
looks to be even better.
