IE5 on win2k. It doe's its job and I dont see the point in having two browsers on a system which only needs one

Mozilla and netscape are the same thing, but there will be no more netscape releases, if you want to remain upto date you will have to get the latest mozilla from www.mozilla.org

I think netscape 7 is the same as mozilla 4

No more Mozilla releases after the current one either, it's going to be the stand-alone web and mail readers from now on.

I love my IE6, with its window blinds, it looks cool, and does the job. Mozilla/Netscape and Opera are all to cluttered

I am an avid fan of the Gecko browsers, mostly Mozilla, and felt very annoyed when I discovered that www.evanescence.com didn't work in Moz, only in IE (and probably via some obscure ActiveX control, I might add). :grind:

After reading this thread, it brought back memories of using mozilla previously, so I thought I would give it another go, and so glad I did, but this time I am using Mozilla Firebird, and so far so good, it is sleek and faster than IE6 IMO, give it a try http://www.mozilla.org/products/firebird/download/

IE5 all the way :)

I have tried Mozilla Firebird and Netscape but I have always found out that they do not format websites properly (e.g. they have those hideous 3D grey buttons on forms when in IE has them all nicely formatted) and Netscape takes a bloody age to load. FB has a spash screen and also takes ages to load.

yes nutscrape has always been notorious for taking ages to load and zapping mem ,its nice to use though once its running...
opera is my choice of browser because its the fastest but you get the odd site it doesnt like normally because of activex junk and such ,so i also use ie6 a lot..its never crashed on me yet...come to think of it neither has opera or nutscrape

yes nutscrape has always been notorious for taking ages to load I find the forum is a lot snappier on netscape (or mozilla). And is does take memory, so does Internet explorer as it is intergrated into windows anyway.

Depends on my OS at the time, Windows then IE6 seems to work for me! Linux then which I ever I stumble across on the menu 1st.

Guess that makes me non-decisive or does it?

With Firebird being made for OSX are we suppose to use that instead of camino?

Jon M

crazybrowser for everyday use.. and firebird as an alternative for bug-testing

Chris

Safari does the job nicely for me ... it has a very effective pop-up stopper and loads pages about 50% faster than IE 5.2 for Mac OSX.

Opera 7.21 on win 2k and occasionally IE6 (because lasy^&£$N& £^!!!) web programers can't be bothered to follow the w3c standards!

Used to use Netscape when it was first aroun  (showing my age now!!). But moved to IE later in life. Happy with it now, though I feel Netscape really got a raw deal.

Mozilla firebird, Konqueror, and for IE users www.myie2.com is a MUST, Its a replacement shell/front end for IE and is all that IE should have been. :-) Too many features to wax lyrical here, try it yourselves. If ya dont like it uninstall it (less then 2M download)

 Opera of course (for browsing & mail client) !! why bother with anything else ??

(I do use an Avant patched IE for when lazy web programmers don't follow standards as Scarlett pointed out - but that is now rare 'cos Opera is getting more and more tolerant :) )

You might like to look at a commercial site which lists 25 browsers, all downloadable. I've tried most of them. Most are a bit of a waste of space.

Even though I dislike the ubiquitous Microsoft, IE6 is still hard to beat.

Mozilla and Opera have their own email clients - I like Mozilla the better of the two and the spam controls are very good. If you want another email client, like Eudora, Firebird is a cut-down version of Mozilla and is quicker.

has anyone tried the neoplanet browser ?

scrotnig
27-06-2004, 20:49
Neoplanet is just a customised version of IE, so any problems IE has will also be present in that.

Avant browser is the same. They're just unneccessary bloatware frankly.

I use IE6 with Win XP for just about everything, Mozilla Firefox 0.8 for my Gmail, Opera 7.11 for another e-mail, and any others that I have is just general things.

Same story with me....but it was annoying how lots of sites wouldn't display/load properly with netscape back then.

Opera for me. I've even installed it to my network user area in 6th form, mainly to stop all the damn pop up adds and the spyware search bars that every computer's IE seems to have.

I do have one use for IE6 and that's viewing my bank balance online as nwolb.com doesn't support Opera
