I'm curious to see how much stuff costs in Britain. I have a few items here. Would someone be so kind as to give a sort of average price, in pounds, for each item? I'm trying to compare prices between the two countries.

Keep in mind that our GDP per capita is about 17% higher than that of Great Britain, so on average, a price deviation of 15% or so is considered, in my book, pretty much the same price.

So here goes, for Canada:

Big Mac Meal - GBP 2.72

12 cans of coke - GBP 1.36

6 bottles (about 355 mL each) of local beer - GBP 4.76

price of electricity, in pounds per kW hours - GBP 0.02 per kW hour

cost of a movie ticket, friday night - GBP 6.12

gas, in pounds per liter - GBP 0.29 per liter

And because it is just after 4 in the morning, I can't seem to think of any other items. Bah.

We are known as rip-off Britain. I know you think canadian taxes are too high, but you should count yourself lucky.
Compare the apple UK store with the apple US store

Then imagine when PC world adds £100 for no reason.

what is income tax in canada? what about road tax/road fund etc? do you have toll roads instead?

you cant compare just the cost of basic goods and say 'oh we pay loads more tax in britain ', I am not saying we DONT, but other contries pay their tax in different ways so you cant compare things in isolation.

I started an income tax thread here: http://www.nthellworld.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=3211

We have no toll roads. There is no road tax, but there is a vehicle fee you have to pay to license your car.

Hmm, the iPod is 400 pounds in the UK, and 325 pounds in Canada.
