Hi :welcome: to the forum

sorry to start with questions, kayge, but what kind of modem do you use & have you tried disabling yahoo messenger and msn to see if internet explorer works without them ?

kayge, :welcome: to CableForum.

Do you have a firewall running? If so, which one?

Take a look at the connection settings for IE, as if they are wrong, both IE and MSN won't work.

Make sure that they are set to connect to LAN and not via dialup or anything else.

If the box on the connections is empty, that's fine.

Check the lan settings ... press the button, and check if anything on the next page is checked.

They should all be unticked.

There should be no connections shown - that bit is for dial-up. Under LAN settings (on the same tab), make sure 'Use proxy server' is NOT checked.

ok, so if the settings are fine, turn off your firewall, and try again, remembering to turn it back on again.

can you try and ping some websites????

go to START then RUN type in CMD and press enter.

now you got a dos prompt open so can you type ping 66.102.9.99 (google) see if you get time-outs or Destination host unreachable.

On the connections tab (again) run setup, choose 'connect to the internet', then choose setup connection manually, then choose always on connection, then click finish. Then close and reopen IE and type a web address in like www.bbc.co.uk (http://www.bbc.co.uk/)

Just a shot in the dark, but you might try this:
go start, control panel, double click on network connections, Under LAN or High Speed Internet it should say "Local area Connection", right mouse click once on this, go down to status, support tab, click on repair.
See if this makes any difference?

Are you using Internet explorer (big blue 'e') or MSN explorer (a buttterfly I think)? if you are using msn explorer try the big blue 'e'. (Or throw your PC out of the window, sometimes helps.);)
