I had a STB for years but only ever used the Internet then changed to a SCAM must say I have more desk space and less heat where I am now.. I would select SCAM if you are only having the internet if you want the TV packages then it has to be STB....

STB = set top box delivers both internet and the cable TV

SCAM = stand alone cable modem only supplies the internet

Often written 'SACM' by the cognoscenti, but equally often pronounced 'scam' :P

I'll have to say CM is better. My ol STB kept crashing and channels freezing etc etc .. I know channels freeze anyway sometimes but this was hella lot more.

I've had my CM up for just under 7months, no problems, no d/c's .. nothing!
