View Full Version : Football Grey haired man in the dugout
sorry the photos aren't great, but this has been bothering my neighbour, and therefore me for ages. he see this man at a lot of matches in the dugout (not just one team), so thinks maybe he's something to do with referees? looks like he's talking into a Dictaphone sometimes, so if someone knows who he is or what he does that would be great :)

He might be the referee assessor or the teams translator if the manager is foreign?

TD's probably onto something. What match was this?
Check the two guys on the left of the manager, picture 15.

Edit: TD was infact right. Translation and Interpretation, big or small, a one on one player/manager basis or entire news conferences if required. One of the companies that provides the services. http://www.footballinterpreter.com/our-services/translation
If they're not working with the club directly, they're recording to create a transcript for foreign TV or for officiating purposes. Hence the recording device.
referee assessor is what my neighbour thinks, and so maybe tries to go to the "big" tv matches which will be under scrutiny.
that match was the Liverpool Vs. Saints match, but he's not at all the Saints matches,
re the Brentford picture, someone else "helpfully" said maybe he's FBI :)
when I've googled about it, several ppl seem to have same question, but no answers, but nice to have some backup to my neighbour's thinking :)
thanks

Cover both Southampton and Sky sports. I'm almost certain TD was right with Translation purposes now or transcript keeping. Solely transcript recording with Sky Sports as their coverage will be beamed across countless foreign networks. He merely records in English to a team behind the scenes whom can translate into every other language.
If I ever end up in the dugout again, I'll ask.
thanks, I'll ask if he's ever seen him on the matches on BT, or for the other teams in that list
