Easier to list the ones I'm not bothered about on that list :D
The DC movies, although I might give the Justice League another shot. Zack Synder needs to remember not everything needs to be dark themed.
In fact that and Wonder Woman are it. Just those two I likely will give a miss on.
The Mummy I'm looking forward to, loved Brendan Frasier's go at them.
But anyway some more, on mobile but no dates.
Kingsman: The Golden Circle
World War Z 2
Power Rangers (No seriously)
John Wick 2
xXx: The return of Xander Cage.

Why not RR as everything else has a sequel now.
While most of them will probably be good its sad to see how little originality there is in the list. Practically everything is either a sequel or a remake.
General Maximus

good point, nearly everything is. There are certain things like Planet of the Apes which I am looking forward to. I never saw the originals because they are so old and I am really looking forward to seeing how the story unfolds and the beautiful thing about it is that because of the technology I can sit there and think it is all real. I used to love cowboy films when I was younger but the sound for the gun shots always sounded hollow and I used to cringe when you got a wide angle desert shot and the actors were clearly standing on a stage with a picture of a cactus and mountain range painted in the background. I went to see the new Magnificent Seven over the weekend and thoroughly enjoyed it because everything looked real and you could believed it was happening.
As far as remakes go though, I think we are all going to welcome the Spiderman remake and I think it is going to be absolutely flipping amazing.
Kingsman: The Golden Circle
World War Z 2
Power Rangers (No seriously)
John Wick 2
xXx: The return of Xander Cage.
Kingsman I have not seen, so dont know if I'm interested in that or not.
WWZ 2 I must have missed, I'll go back and check, and add that to my list if I did.

Must watch, I was quite surprised by it. Has one of the most incredibly ridiculous but quite amazing fight scenes I've ever seen.

Kingsman I have not seen, so dont know if I'm interested in that or not.
It is well worth a watch. The trailer makes it look more like a serious spy film which is why I watched it but it is more of a cheesy parody of James Bond. It strikes the right balance between humour/cheese/seriousness and is really entertaining. I am glad they are making a second one.
Power Rangers very first came out back in 1992 or something like that when I was 12 so I am dying to see if the effects are going to be any better 20 years later. Normally I wouldn't pay to go and see it at the cinema but I have got an Odeon Limitless card and can go and see everything for free :)
I loved the first xXx film. It is everything I always wanted James Bond to be pre-Daniel Craig so I am very much looking forward to a new one. At the time I was hoping they was going to turn it into a franchise like James Bond and keep making a new every couple of years with a new mission/story.

As the year isn't quite over yet I am also going to post this year's list so you can see if you have missed anything and also make sure you don't miss anything going forward. Those Star Wars tickets are going to be up for advanced booking any day now :p

The first was one of the underrated movies I missed out and seen by chance. Epic action movie
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead men tell no tales

Resident Evil: The Final Chapter:
Comic Con Trailers:

Best till last then:
Power Rangers:
First trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q-C4qqsgs8w
Must say Power Rangers does look really good. A lot different to the tone of the TV series and a little bit more serious. The scene with Rita looks pretty creepy too.
Some have said Chronicle meets the Babysitters Club.
Odd that they have gone down the superhuman route as they normally don't really have powers until they morph but it is a reboot I guess.

it flipping does. I was going to go and see it for the sake of it and expected the usual cheese but that trailer gives it some genuine clout. That teaser has made me want to go and see it Power Ranger or not (and I did like Chronicle as well, it put the superhuman twist on the average little guy).
Updated my list to add Power Rangers, also the Wolverine film now has a title - 'Logan' apparently.

quite sadly I think it is the last film we are going to see Patrick Stewart in. If I win the euromillions tomorrow I would love to fund another TNG movie and pay him however much he wants to be in it even if he does nothing other than sit in the Captain's chair issuing orders.

Logan
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Div0iP65aZo&feature=youtu.be
Clearly set in the future then. Still having to remember the events of X1,2 and 3 were retconned although Wolverine remembers the original timeline.
adzii_nufc
21-10-2016, 20:19
Looks like the film is going on 'The last of us' and other similar stories. Wolverine has been in exile for x amount of years, mutants have nearly died out, this mutant girl is the savior, Wolverine is to keep her safe, albeit a strangely aged Wolverine who doesn't appear to be healing like he was.
As for the timeline, to the outside world (everyone besides Wolverine) the events up until First Class never happened, nor did Wolverine 2. Only Wolverine remembers these as he changed the past. To remedy the fact he'd have know adamantium bone structure, they had Stryker capture him anyway (again to the viewer) and perform the Weapon X experiment.
everyone must see Sausage party it is so funny but warning do not let your kids watch this it may be a cartoon but holy hell its messed up.
Thats not a 2017 film right ?
No this should be in last film you watched thread.

A little something to whet your appetite. For those of you who are unfamiliar with them Screen Junkies are a bunch of movie geeks who do some cracking discussions on all our favourite movies and keep up with the latest gossip. The video above is a teaser for next years film releases and to get the excitement going.
Quite annoyingly the first film on my list isn't out till 20th January (xXx) but I am sure I will go a see Passengers and Rogue a few times more before then :p (and now I have said that I have just realised Assassins Creed has disappeared off my list, it is out on 1st Jan)

I hear that classic film 'On the Buses' (1971) is going to be re-released in HD !
Got to be seen if only for the lyrics in the theme:-

He's probably alluding to the common problem with it. Way over hyped, not really it's own fault though and the incredibly dumb characters with dumb decision making skills.. as quoted by many.
It's watchable though, just internet elitists and circlejerks dragged it way further down than it deserved. Think Star Trek and the way that gets dragged around despite being damn good imo.

(Thanks to General Maximus for providing all the links, and some dates)Is it just me, or does it seem like Hollywood is only interested in targeting teenage boys?
Superheroes, more superheroes, more cgi, more cgi....
Where is the new Lawrence of Arabia, new Psycho etc? Actually something made for adults and preferably with a story?
That is only the film's he is interested in seeing. There are plenty of other film's and different genres coming out.
I know there is other stuff and I wasn't having a dig at PaulM, but the point still remains. A lot of Hollywood content is cgi heavy and story light. Why is Hollywood so obsessed with this type of film?

They aren't obsessed with it. However that is what makes the most money. So that is of course where they focus.
Dunkirk is very story driven with little or no CGI for starters.

what you have got to remember is that it is the blockbusters that pay for the arty farty films. I can remember 2 years ago when American Sniper came out. Neil Patrick Harris opened the Oscars talking about the big films nominated for best picture and I think he mentioned 6 or 7 films and said something like "together they have got $600 million at the box office" and everyone applauded and then he quipped "and of that $300 was for American Sniper" and he was having a dig that one film accounted for half of the revenue out of 6 or 7 films.
Every year I watch all the major films nominated for the big awards and some of them tell great stories, especially the ones which are based on true events, but they aren't necessarily the most entertaining. Everyone has different tastes and that is why we have so many different genres of films. I for one don't like horrors, they don't do anything for me at all but it doesn't mean they shouldn't be made so other people can enjoy them.

La La Land and Manchester by the Sea both open this week and they're meant to be good. It's Oscar season so you'll get a lot of decent films around now.
....I've heard of Manchester by the Sea. So, yep one for me there.
And (sticking my neck out) John Wick2. Everyone I know hated the first film, but I liked it, so there! Who cares if Keanu Reeves can't act? Actually, it was his robotic expression that made the original film good in my opinion.
And I guess I might throw in Spiderman and one or two of the other superheroes/scifi ones too. I just have to pretend to look like a teenager in the cinema which will be amusing with my ever greying hair.

The only "teenage" boy I know actually doesnt care for action, superhero or sci fi films.
Pretty much the rest of my family & friends love them. None are teenage boys, and in many cases, they are girls.

There are a lot of Superhero films. They risk fatigue of it at some point I think. However there are so many films released it's not really a problem, just don't watch them. IMO The best superhero film is still A Dark Knight. Shame DC are struggling now, hope Wonder Woman is good as she was one of the bright spots in Batman vs Superman which was a rough film.

Hey, get it right! :D
It was all Chris Nolan, DC never had a high, Chris Nolan was just Chris Nolan to be fair. Best DC films made, no argument. If Nolan had signed on properly and been at the helm over Snyder, the new ones would be equally as good.
Marvel are pretty unstoppable right now, a well liked continuous cast with more likeable characters and Suicide Squad had little chance of matching Deadpool. I feel like DC have the better TV shows though.

Oh yeah it was definitely Nolan. Batman has the additional advantage of already been a gritty and dark universe which lends itself well to modern films at the moment. It's easier to see how you create an compelling and relevant story with Batman than with Superman.Nolan was also given far more creative control than recent Superhero movies. Joss Whedon has complained a number of times of how Marvel would micromanage the whole process. The Nolan Batman films were their own films that existed by themselves, now it's more of an industry and creative decisions are limited by the fact they have to co-exist with many other films across the Marvel Universe.
Maybe DC should go back to the old way of doing it. Get a team they trust and give them a franchise for a film or three that can stand on their own. Instead of trying to do the Marvel Universe thing.

Agreed, the attempt to compete is pretty hopeless and moving backwards to separate universe trilogy's like Nolans Dark Knight trilogy would suit them so much better as you've said. Still can't find myself disagreeing that The Dark Knight is pretty much the greatest superhero movie made over both DC and Marvel. Nolan is still around too looking over things Snyder does but it still doesn't feel great. Marvel don't get it their own way either though. I feel like Age of Ultron was quite overrated. The introduction to Ultron set Ultron up to be an epic Villain, the Disney quotations in a twisted way was an epic scene... It just kinda tanks from then on in.
Another problem I see for Marvel and probably relates to your comments about micromanaging is how massive their merchandise base has become, Disney of course doing absolutely everything possible to make sure they have everything of absolutely anything to sell to kids and adults alike. They need those on screen characters doing exactly the right thing.
All in all, Chris Nolan and Heath Ledger combined in the second movie of a trilogy and absolutely smashed it. The greatest on screen Joker I've ever seen.

Well exactly. I think it's hard to rate writers and directors of Superhero movies when the studios have so much influence. As you say there is the problem with merchandise but also future films, contracts and so on. The writers are given characters they need to introduce, rough estimates of screen time, where characters need to be in order to fit into the universe (they can't kill anyone off without a businesses decision being made) and other things they need to happen in the film. They get given these blocs they need to fit into a film. Where Nolan got a clean sheet of paper they're given lego.

A bit of a teaser for you. I have just been looking to see if there are any new trailers available to post and saw this one. It is down for 20th October release and if the full trailer looks any good we will have to add it to the main list. I love these kind of disaster movies, they make for great cinema viewing and I am encouraged by the fact that Gerard Butler and Ed Harris are in it. Proper trailer follows later.
When catastrophic climate change endangers Earth's very survival, world governments unite and create the Dutch Boy Program: a world wide net of satellites, surrounding the planet, that are armed with geoengineering technologies designed to stave off the natural disasters. After successfully protecting the planet for two years, something is starting to go wrong. Two estranged brothers are tasked with solving the program's malfunction before a world wide Geostorm can engulf the planet.

FAST & Furious is one of the biggest film franchises ever created – with the seventh movie raking in £1.2billion.
And bosses must clearly believe the best way to blow that total to smithereens is by making the eighth instalment into one of the most ridiculous action movies of all time.
Vin Diesel returns for the eighth instalment of the Fast & Furious franchise
The film may top the box office, but it won’t win any Oscars
The blockbuster petrolhead flick, out today, is littered with far-fetched scenes — including DWAYNE “THE ROCK” JOHNSON palming off a nuclear missile with his bare hand.
Fast and Furious veteran VIN DIESEL drives his car on to an aeroplane — mid-flight — and later survives a nuclear explosion simply by ducking behind two cars.
Film review - Dan Wootton's Bizarre column (https://www.thesun.co.uk/tvandshowbiz/3311554/how-the-fate-of-the-furiouss-nuclear-explosions-a-1000-car-pile-up-and-driving-onto-planes-make-fast-furious-8-the-most-ludicrous-action-film-ever/)

Only ticked 3 off so far. xXx, Resident Evil and Logan.
Its not the rating thread ofc but honestly both xXx and Resident Evil were mediocre at best. xXx was just pants up until the final third, The inclusion of Neymar was just absurd and added nothing at all.
Resident Evil was just underwhelming for what'll be the final of that franchise version. I'm almost certain there's going to be a much better true to source reboot on the way.
Logan was enjoyable, as are all X-Men releases to be fair. The whole film is one gigantic continuity hole with plot holes laying in the open but that's just something else, we can just pretend it's not there.
Note: Avoided posting spoilers deliberately as people will still use this thread as a guide for releases and stuff they've missed. Just Incase anyone replies with 'Well the part where 'person' does this'

Origins and standalone movies tend to be far better than the crossover movie IMO. Winter Soldier being an example in which it was easily far better than Age of Ultron. The Flash will be harder to swing given it's already highly successful TV adaptation.
I think a few have the chance to be good solo films away from the Justice League, assuming it's another JL mess. Batman has the potential, WW looks good as we can see above. Man of Steel was fairly good. Can see where I'm going with this. Sometimes a single actor/character can prop up and entire franchise, see Wolverine/Hugh Jackman

Zack Snyder has left the Justice League film after the death of his daughter. Don't think the circumstances matter, it's tragic for him either way.
Joss Whedon (Marvel) has stepped in to finish the movie. The man that directs the direct competitor movie is directing both as of now. Dont think anyone could complain given the reasons. It's nice to see a quick agreement was reached.

really really bizarre, you have thought there would have been a competitors clause in his contract that prevents him from doing any work with DC whilst his is actively engaged in Marvel projects.
I'll say it now though, if Justice League turns out to be good, it is going to be because of Joss Whedon. I wouldn't be surprised if he goes in and wants to change a tonne of stuff and DC let him.
I think it may well be more of a favour to a friend than any studio involvement.

Yeah doubt any studio would think about blockading something like this. Its helping out someone in need. I can imagine Christopher Nolan would be the only other person in the running.
Don't think anything will be changed our of respect. He's merely finishing a movie already scripted.

I want to watch Valerian for the sci-fi-ness and I am sure it is going to be good but it is going to really niggle at me at how light hearted and non-serious it is because it is more or a young teens movie than an adult sci-fi.

Even if they started right now there is no way they are going to get all that done in 1 year ready for release next summer.

sure does, we have had a cracking year this year with Guardians, Spiderman (5th July, tickets available now) and Thor (27th October) and next year is going to be just as good. We have got:
Black Panther: 16th February
Avengers: Infinity War: 4th May
Ant-man and the Wasp: 6th July
In 2019 we'll have Captain Marvel, Avengers 4 and Spiderman 2. I love having three films spaced out throughout the year keeping the story and MCU going.

I know it isn't a huge blockbuster but I think some people will be interested in this. I love stuff like this because it tells you the "unknown" story around something which you grew up with and has had such a profound impact on what I imagine is billions of peoples lives over the years. It is the same with Saving Mr Banks aka the Mary Poppins story, it is absolutely fascinating.

Exactly as that was a great film with some great acting and effects and course included the late great Robin Williams in it.:(

at least they've had long enough to write a good story to link the traps unlike the last few Saw films ;)

The trailer linked at the end (for Bright) looks a little more interesting.

It has been on my radar all year and has been hailed as one of those films to look out for but I have got a bit of a stigma about it now that I have been to see Dunkirk. There was no dialogue in the trailer and I am still clueless as to what the story is supposed to be.
Ready Player One looks superb and has been talked about for a long time.
I am also really looking forward to Thor: Ragnarok after seeing the Comic-Con trailer it has really got me hooked.

I am absolutely dying to see this, Jennifer Lawrence is perfect for it and has made me realise how much more popular (adding the male demographic) the 50 Shades series would be if she starred in them.

didn't know anything about it until now but it looks worth a watch

Ready Player One looks superb and has been talked about for a long time. Looks like another special effects laden affair to me with no story. I'll avoid.:)
By the way, that kid actor was in two excellent films when he was younger. One is called Mud with Matthew McConaughey and the other is called Joe with Nicolas Cage. If anyone fancies watching a story rather than a load of computer generated special effects, then I recommend both of these films.
I think I'll stick to my computer generated effects :)

New Trailer, This actually looks fun and may not just be a reboot going by the opening scene in the new trailer.

I am pleased to report that I have seen every film on my list this year. I am pretty much the same as you minus Pirates of the Caribbean. You have missed out big time with Blade Runner. I strongly strongly suggest you keep your eyes peeled for it coming back at the cinema. I don't know about cineworld but Odeon do this thing called "silver screen" where about 4 months after a film has been on they bring it back for a few days and you can go and see it for £3. If you get the chance to see it at the cinema you really should, it is amazing and in my top 3 films for this year.

I don't know if Odeon have made a boo boo or not but tickets for Jumanji are up for advanced booking for next weekend (9th and 10th). I have got one so we'll see what happens.
They have been available on Showcase for well over a week.

nice to see Thor, Guardian and Spiderman up there. I have seen all the films on the list apart from Despicable Me 3, Pirate of the Caribbean and Wolf Warrior (which I haven't even heard of).
I have never heard of it either, apparently its a Chinese film.
I have seen all except Beauty and the Beast, The Fate of the Furious & Wolf Warrior 2.
Of those, I intend to see Fate of the Furious when I get chance, the other two I'm not interested in.
