Ok,
I have a brand new virgin TIVO box. The wire comes in the living room and then in to a splitter. The first bit goes to the internet box, and the other to the TIVO box. We want to move the TIVO box to outside the living room and the wire isn't long enough. My question is...what is this wire called that I need to extend?

Thank you!!

you need Webro HD100 Tripple Shielded Coax

Available on ebay in various lengths.

Sat, Digital Coax is only Dual layer shielded. so it doesnt meet VM spec, as VM use a tripple shielded cable.

If you use Webro HD100 it exceeds VM spec, and you cant go wrong :)

Connectors are PPC EX6 NT+ connectors, also available on eBay.. these are the same as the engineers use but you need a tool to put them on though.

But make sure you use correct cable and it will minimise risk of problems to your services and your neighbours as improper modifications can effect your neighbours services even if it doesnt noticably effect yours.

Or you can get Virginmedia to come out and do it for the grand sum of £99

Lol. Guess they're installing cable that doesn't meet their own spec then. The stuff VM installed in my flat isn't even double shielded.

It should be triple shielded.

It has the foam around the core, that is wrapped in a bonded aluminium tape, then the aluminium braid then a loose foil layer on top.

Do you have RG59?

They used to use RG59 which is thinner and might not be triple shielded.

But I thought they had gradually stopped using that and moved to RG6 which should be triple shielded.

It's made especially for them by an American company.

Used to have a photo of the drum when engineer came here.

JB66, same person as on here even states triple shielded cable is used by VM and he's an VM tech.

It's TFC-T10 that they installed, and lots of it too.

some techs prefer rg59 as its more flexable, i prefer rg6 seems to be more robust
