ps 3 conection to tv + surround sound

Hi im trying to conect my ps3 to my tv and then to the surround sound and carnt get any sound.
I have connected the hdmi cable from the ps3 to tv so i can watch dvds in hd, i have a optical port on the back of the tv and ps3 but not one on my surround sound, i do not have a hdmi port on the surround sound either, how can i get the best sound when watching hd films through the surround sound any help would be gratefull thanks

If you post the model number of your surround kit we can do some research. A link to the manual for the TV would help also.
