View Full Version : What have 174 and 175 changed to?
Up until a few weeks ago, you could call 174 or 175 and get a dial tone. You put the phone down and your phone would ring. If you picked it up, you were told whatyour number was.
Telephone Fau7lt department says it should be 173 or 174. 173 goes to Customer Services and 174 and 175 are now not recognised.
These are engineer test numbers, published on OFCOM's website. However, Virgin appear to have changed these codes to something else.
Does anyone know what the new code now is? Thanks.
156 but now asks for a pin number, by the way this may not work on NTL lines, just the Telewest ones but maybe not Eurobell. 1579 no longer works either to tell you what your phone number is
All numbers have been replaced with 156
Thanks. I would have thought there would be a generic PIN for this 156 works on NTL lines as well but yes it does ask for a PIN.
I've heard back from the phone team and 174 / 175 hasn't been withdrawn it should still work.
We can try and check why it's not working on specific switches, but would need to know where you are - if it's not working for anyone could you PM me
Ben we have been told its been withdrawn and replaced with Ernie 156
That is for techs. 174 / 175 still exist for customers to use
Well it should do - confirmation came direct from the telephony team

I tried it last night from a Virgin line in the Brighton area and both 174 and 175 returned "The number you have dialled has not been reconised."
I'll PM the number I was calling from.

They've been removed, I got a sheet sayi g all numbers have moved to the new numbers
It's being looked at. If it has been removed, there has been no brief to the call centres
It's being looked at. If it has been removed, there has been no brief to the call centres
Why would there be?
Because it's in the processes for call centres to give to customers so they can find out what the telephone number of their line is
Does it work on your landline?
Nope, which is part of what I've fed back
Well we were told at a team briefing months ago all numbers are changing to Ernie, in my region it was one number for one half and another for the other, it's all 156 now
Not doubting that, but as I said, it's in processes for customers - so somewhere it hasn't filtered through correct and needs to be sorted one way or another
