Hi all ..

Several weeks ago i was on a 30mb connection evenings & weekends the connection would render unusable from approx 5pm till midnight.
Several phonecalls and complaints later they upgraded me to 60mb , now its even worse ...

Im being told there is a high utilisation in my area and they also say there is no rush to fix it .. Surely this isnt right ?

My connection is ofcourse used for fun stuff with the kiddies such as xbox and pc (warcraft) no leeching at all .. but most importantly its used to connect my wifes heart monitor to her Hospital.

Many times in the last few weeks i have had to take her manually to get reading downloaded and its now becoming a joke.

Below are a few details if anyone can help or advise me please.

Virgin : Super Hub (Modem Mode)
Home : Belkin N Class router (brand new)
Connection : 60MB
Connected : 2 x Xbox (hardwired) - 1 x PC (hardwired) - 1 x Laptop (wireless - only occasionally used)

Ment to add a Virgin Engineer did come out and chaeck and scratched his head several times and in all fairness did as much as the guy could.
He left me his number and i have left several messages but to no success.

The Modem as been used direct also without the router to my PC the connection was no better in or out of modem mode.

All items are currently hardwired.

Many thanks

those power levels are fine dude. Minuses arent always a good thing but since I upgraded to 100mbit mine are minus more often than not and I have no probs getting full speed.

They have done a bit of a retarded thing. If the area is congested giving you a speed increase isnt going to help if there is no bandwidth available. It is like the motorway being gridlocked and me saying "i'll tell you what, I'll let you drive 120mph instead of 70mph", you still arent going to get anywhere.

Many areas have congestion issues however I doubt that there arent any plans to sort it out. VM are going round upgrading all their equipment as part of a re-furb program and adding the extra capacity for the speed dpubling upgrades. You have probably been given the upgrade early before they have got round to your area. You can have a look at the rollout schedule to see when you are due http://doublespeed.virginmedia.com/?buspart=DoubleSpeeds_2

If you dont have any luck there normally I would suggest sending a complaint to the powers that be but I cant see it doing anything to improve your speed. The best bit of advice I can offer you given your wifes heart condition is to think about switching to BT Infinity because their network is 110% atm.
