Just called virgin before, got an upgrade from XL 30 to XXL 100MB
Problem is, I asked them to put me straight onto the 100MB Tier, and not the XXL which they cocked up as expected.
Called them up again, explained about the wrong billing codes etc and was told that there isn't any other code and i'm on the proper tier?
I'm stuck on 5MB and want to get the full 10Mb, so eager to get this sorted.
Do virgin still offer 100Mb as an independant tier, or have they changed things?
Don't want to keep wasting my time constanlty calling them?
XXL 100 is the top tier available to existing customers

Right, Well I just called up one final time, and was told that it would cost me an extra £9 now for 100MB? - Confused.
I've read a few similar threads over on the Virgin forums of people being put on XXL instead of 100, so was hoping to follow suite.
So, seems to be a bit of confusion here.
As communicated to existing 'full' 100Mbit customers, it will get price change in April - but we are not in April yet
So XXL 100 is cheaper than 'full' 100Mbit
Full100meg is discontinued, it's xxl100

I see, Well, I really want to get this rectified now.
Is the £9 extra correct from XL30 to 'full' 100? I'd check the prices but Virgins Broaband section of their site seems to be down - Bugger!

just wait, you will be getting 120/12 soon, im sure you can cope for a while with 5mb upload?
Is the £9 extra correct from XL30 to 'full' 100?!Yes, sounds about right
Your on one of the transitory tiers.
Until the double speed upgrades have been done in your area (and possibly dependent on when the 120/12 and price reduction happens) people moving up are being put onto temporary tiers that have the headline download speed but not the upload speed. Main reason being the network can handle more people with higher download speeds but not uploads.
Its a temporary thing, but hilariously the phone staff dont seem to have been informed hence why you get conflicting info.
On a slight side note, all areas will be 100meg enabled as of tomorrow!

I will be on the phone again first thing tomorrow, I've had 3Mb Upload (2.6 actual) since extra download channels were added a week ago, previously I had 10Mb Upload.
VM 100Mb Technician came Saturday and declared everything OK this end, trouble elsewhere....

I think that was why everyone was scratching their head about my 3Mb problem. :dozey:

Where did anyone say that?
can you read?
you deliberatly post cryptic as if you never want to give a clear statement.
what did jb66 say?
what did jb66 say?If you are talking about this
Full100meg is discontinued, it's xxl100
Then that is correct - for existing customers

can you explain why new orders are also 5 meg upload?
as I see the same for that as well.
which makes it as I said. but carry on been confusing as you seem to like it.

Currently brand new customers ordering broadband get the higher priced 100Mbit broadband

a friend of mine got 100mbit installed on monday, he has 5meg upload. Brand new customer. I know as I asked him to do speedtests (checking for congestion) he kept getting low uploads around 5meg so I asked him to then check his config. He is in LE2 area.
Then he got put on the wrong tier

so he can ring up and get it changed?
Well probably, although the bundle cost may well be different
From what I can gather I was the first person to notice this, I was on 30mb and upgraded to 100mb at the beginning of march, after countless calls to virgin, retentions sorted it me in seconds
It's just a matter of putting you on the proper 100mb package not xxl
In my situation it was 7 pound extra but as it's going to be the same from the 1st of April he just credited £7.50 to cover the difference and from April it will be the same as the xxl price
Sent from my phone so excuse the punctuation

So, Why has the 'full' 100Mb tier been discountiued for existing customers?
In theory, if an area is 100Mb enabled it should by default have the capacity for the standard 100Mb/10Mb configuration as that's what the tier is.
Is it because some areas have been deliberately half enabled for 100Mb downstream so the capacity isn't physically there yet?
I would expect when Virgin originally did the capacity numbers for 100Mbit a couple of years ago, it would have been expected to have a different number of 100/10 than will end up on 100Mbit as part of the uplifts
So rather than risk problems with the upstream, XXL 100 is limited to 5Mbit until the work is completed

it took me 30 mins on the fone to find that out then got told july at earliest, which is stupid like as liverpool was one of the last to be upgraded so it should have had 10mb upload

In regards to the speed upgrades coming in July etc, does that also include the capacity for 120Mb/12Mb or is it just an interim upgrade for more capacity for 10Mb uploads?
Initially the programme is to return the current double speed tiers to 10:1. It's not been confirmed yet when 120Mbit will launch

well the email i got said it would launch after everywhere has been upgraded to 100mb then 100mb customer will get boosted for free. that would be at least 2 year before we will get it.
I have the sneaking suspicion that VM just activated the few remaining areas that were awaiting 100 meg before they were actually ready for it just so they could claim it was all done.
Of course, you can't actually get the full product now so there wont be an increase in upload usage (because its the same as 50meg). Download capacity would be the only issue and that's not such a problem.
I am a cynical bugger though :)
well .... i just upgraded from XL30 to XXL 100/5
i asked the nice lady i want the full 100mb/10 and she told me thats the only one they have to offer
she also told me that in my area London NW5 with new speed from about 5-11 pm i may face little issues with new speed during the peak hours because is many traffic
that makes me think ...... or either they have stop offering the 100mb .... or they must giving the option with 5 mb up > where areas are very busy (for security reasons until is ready for full speed)
