Over the past two days I have had the pleasant surprise of being able to download at over 15MBPS whilst using newsgroups. I was just wondering how this is possible when in the superhub config max traffic rate is 110000000. For me to hit the speeds I have been seeing I would have to be sat on a 160MB line. I was just wondering if anyone else has witnessed the same recently.

You are not downloading at 15MBPS. Your newsgroups client is just counting wrong.

As above it'll be the client lagging I get the same thing (and higher) in certain download managers.

Also, 160Mbps line would be nearer 20MB/s, 15MB/s is 120Mbps, which will be possible in the near future after the 100meg upgrades are done.

Also most newsgroups clients count the total figure when downloading compressed headers so the compressed throughput may be a lot less than the shown figure..

I used to get this problem in Grabit, but yes it was a client issue.

I prefer Newsleecher now.

Thanks everyone. It is strange that this has never happened before this week whilst using Newsleecher and time it is taking to download is more indicitive of a line faster than 100mb. Previous to this week I used to max out at around 12MB/s which is exactly what i'd expect.

on my 100 mbit connection I'm making a solid 12.3 MB/sec from supernews using SABnzbd on a Linux platform
