Have u tried a reboot of hub?

aye of course, the config has changed in the last few days from 30/3 to 30/2 too

are they trying to annoy me or is there a logical explanation ?

yeah it is i got the message, i read just now on vm's forum apparently im ON the new tier @ 30 meg (should be 60) benmcr seems to be saying there is TWO 30 meg tiers (not on the vm website there is not, also, it clearly states on the 30 meg it will be upped to 60) so im really confused as to why they upgraded me to 30 meg (i was already on) AND reduced my upload from 3 meg to 2 meg, so they actually changed my service to my DETRIMENT and failed to amend the bill accordingly ?

There are two 30Mbit packages at the moment, one is only for existing customers at the moment which is why it's not on the new customer sales website

If you log into My Virgin Media, it'll say you are on BB L, not XL

You will also be paying an approrpriately lower price as you are on a lower tier

If you want to go up to XL 60 (Which is what it'll be as an existing customer), you can do so via Customer Services

How would one get doubled from XL to L?!

BenMcr

How would one get doubled from XL to L?!You wouldn't, but if you ask to 'be put on 30Mbit' or something simliar it's possible that you would get put onto L 30 as part of a bundle change.

Same if you said you wanted to save money etc.

Due to the tier changes it's as important to ask what tier you are going onto i.e L/XL/XXL as it is the speed - because for most existing customers the tiers are downstream doubled immediately as part of a broadband change, so you'll get more than you may expect of the tier you are on.

benmcr, the agent i spoke to when i changed down from 50 to 30, did advise me too as the 30 would become 60 and i would be gettign it (it will be in the recording of the call) india does not have a clue i tryed to explain and they keep passing me through to faults, i just keep trying to ring until i get somebody from this country

Jeez. I'm completely lost with all this.

I'm on the 30/2 as well. I was on 30/3 but coming to the end of a discount for that so rang to downgrade back to 20 and ended up being put on 30/2 at the same price.
Am I to expect a double speed or not Ben do you know? My VM says I'm on L and running on one of the new double speed packages.
Am I sat around waiting for something that's not going to happen?

BenMcr
23-03-2012, 11:29
Sorry if there is any confusion from the agent, but as I said, the 30Mbit tier that existing customers now get put on to won't get double to 60Mbit as it's L 30, not XL 30

If you did downgrade from XXL 50, to XL, your speed actually goes up as you'd be put on XL 60 immediately

1) Not sure why you phoned to downgrade as XL 30 and XL 20 are basically the same tier and cost.

2) As it says you are on L then you'll stay at 30Mbit, there will be no further doubling.

It is XL 30 that will be doubled to 60Mbit, not L 30 - as that is an increase from what L was at 10Mbit.

1) Not sure why you phoned to downgrade as XL 30 and XL 20 are basically the same tier and cost.

Well, I didn't know that! One would expect that if you're on a discount for 30 (having upgraded from 10 sorry, not 20) and that discount was coming to an end, you'd expect to be paying more for it when the discount ends or drop back down to what you were paying originally, no? So bloody convoluted all these tiers, I tell you. Your general user is baffled by it.

Right, so My VM is telling me I'm already on a doubled speed, but you're saying I'm not even going to be doubled?
So only some speeds are being doubled and not others??

General Maximus is wrong here: http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/35402504-post11.html

benmcr, you was spot on regards tariffs, after 20 mins with india i got put through to a uk centre and explained whats gone on, he simply confirmed that my tier had been changed from xl to l during the "upgrade" and now he has solved the issue (i also got the impression i am not the first to say this today to him) i am now on the correct tier of 60 / 3

Because you are already doubled for the tier you are on!

BB L is normally 10Mbit, however you are on BB L 30Mbit, so are in fact 3 times faster.

Thanks Ben. Sorry, I have a mild disablilty and do struggle to understand numbers and whatnot sometimes.
I just rang and have been upgraded to XL 30 (and 60) anyway for no extra price.

All I would say is the tier name is the important at the moment, as that will tell you what will happen

That will be why I dont get the banner and popup then.

Someone at VM should really create a table showing the tiers, current speed, "double speeds" etc.

hint hint :)

BenMcr

You mean like this one that's on the double speed site:

Below is a full list of all the upgrade speeds.
Broadband package New speed after you've been doubled
Broadband size: XXL Up to 100Mb
Broadband size: XL Up to 60Mb
Broadband size: L Up to 20Mb
Broadband size: M Up to 20Mb

qasdfdsaq
23-03-2012, 13:13
My one is better:

Broadband Size S: 2Mb will be upgraded to 5Mb
Broadband Size M: 10Mb will be upgraded to 20Mb
Broadband Size L: 10Mb will be upgraded to 20Mb
Broadband Size XL: 20Mb and 30mb will be upgraded to 60Mb
Broadband Size XXL and 100mb: 50Mb will merge with 100mb. 100mb users will get a price reduction to match 50mb. Both will be upgraded to 120mb.

But that doesn't show all the tiers currently in use does it?
(and that's a question, not a statement at this point!)

(and that's a question, not a statement at this point!)The only one that doesn't appear is L 30, because it's not part of the mass retier programme

shame both are incomplete.

why do you think there is confusion with the 30meg?

because its ommited on both tables.

10 -> 30

10 -> 30Because that movement isn't part of the double speed programme specifically. Technically it's a new tier.

There is no 10 -> 30. At least not one that's been officially announced or has anything to do with the "speed doubling" upgrades.

[Edit] Yeah what Ben said.

there is 10 -> 30, it may not be automatic but that upgrade path will exist.

my sister has been offered it since last night, and my new price is the same as the 10mbit service.
