As the subject suggests I was upgraded from a fully working 50mb connection mid January and for the most I am seeing rock solid speeds up and down. However since the upgrade I can no longer use virginmedias newsfeed to supplement my paid for astraweb account.

I always get authentication errors as if it thinks I am trying to connect from another provider, just to check nothing had gone awry I have brought my system into work (we have virgin here 50mb) and again both news servers worked flawlessly as they did previously.

The virginmedia help forums nobody even looks nevermind reply it would seem so hopefully someone here will have experienced this and can advise how to fix it.

I upgraded from 50 to 100 back in November and havent had any probs. It is news.virginmedia.com:119 with no username or pass.

Just to second that, 100 meg here and no access issues with Virgin news groups. Ensure that no user name or password is entered and no vpn is used ;).

are you sure you havent accidentally ticked a box somewhere in your client saying something like "this connection requires authentication" so it is looking for a username and pass that arent there?

General Maximus

i dont think there is a direct dial number. On the two occasions I have had to ring them in the past I rang the normal tech support dudes (150) and they transfered me.

your power levels havent got anything to do with newsgroup access, is to do with being able to connect to the cmts.

What are your leveld btw?

-12 to -14 on all 4 downstream channels cannot achieve max speed on any speedtest

had engineer round at minus 7 to -8 on all downstreams now getting full 100mb now and the attunator was the problem i don't get why support on fone didn't tell me to take it off myself

He still hasnt done his job, -8 is unacceptable, it should be -3 and above

i've got a splitter on mate to split connections so that making it like that if that was off it would minus 2 to -3
