View Full Version : Damage caused by Contracters replacing gas mains
I spotted damage to Virgin Media cables caused by contractors who are replacing gas mains my area RG41.
I have reported it to the Virgin Media shop in Reading who contacted the appropriate department.

Interesting Ken. I take it that's in DD not WC; the box on the corner of the two roads is an optical node.
Any detriment to your service? None to mine.
For information there also details about who to report damage like that to here:

Hi Sephiroth,
It is in out side number 37 Danywern Drive.
No problems with my service but I thought that would be wise to report it to Virgin Media as it could cause problems later as I have seen how the contractors doing the gas mains replacement fill in the holes by using a grab crane and just dropping the soil from a height of about six feet which is likely to cause further damage.

I have e-mailed all of the details and the contractor name and photo to the e-mail address that you gave; I have received an e-mail from that department that they will be investigating it.
The bad news is they have just started to dig holes to replace the gas mains in my road, and yes they are digging on the same place that the Virgin Media trunking is!:(

Ken did. I did. We live round the corner from the location.
thats hardly damage
There are two reasons for the trunking, one is protection of the existing cables and the second is to enable new cables to be easily done. Without the trunking the path would need to dug up to replace the cables.
thats hardly damage
That IS damage and the contractor responsible will be getting a bill :)

It would have had to be quick because the gas company will be filling it soon. Plus they had to remove the ducting in order to get to their pipes 4 feet lower. The Gas company reimburse VM for reinstatement. So I'm fairly sure it would have been done even without the Power of Ken. (Rhymes with Ben).
