View Full Version : Superhub install tomorrow
As the search will bring up 1000's of threads can anyone give me a quick tolerance range for up/down power levels and also SNR ranges for the superhub as I'm getting 50Mb installed tomorrow. Just want to be able to check the levels before the engineer leaves
Thanks in advance

It's the engineer's job to check the levels, but for reference the recommended range is:
-7 to +7dB downstream and the closer to zero the better
At least 35dB SNR
35-55dB upstream.
Thank you Qasi
Currently on my old 2050 modem I get
Upstream 38.0 dBmV
Downstream 5.8 dBmV
SNR 41.0 dB
ive been told
-5 to +5
and 40-50 Upstream
Optimum is -3 to +7
Upstream 35 to 55
Your signals are perfect, I wouldn't waste an attenuator on that

Pah they did some stuff in Edinburgh that dropped my downstream levels from -3 to -8. Had a 15dB FPA on and can't find my 10, so my choices now are -8 with the attenuator or +12 without it. Urgh.
so unfair I missed this thread..
Thank you Qasi
yeah thanks Qasi :fit:
My only worry is that I want the 2050 leaving on as well for the next 45 days, will this effect the signal much having two on the same cable? For reference it'll be the only two devices as I don't bother with TV
Modem, a bit like a 250 but with more memory and NAT capability

LOL, -8 + 15 = 7 Take it off
Edinburgh is split with many types of architecture, has your upstream changed

Yeah but the FPA is weird - I took it off and it went to +12.
Yeah, my upstream changed, but not until a few weeks after my downstream did.
Engineers been, levels are (with 8 downstream channels running)

Those down power levels could be a little lower.
8 down channels.. very nice. would you be willing to set up a ping monitor :D
Already set one up, also the 10Mb virgin Media business modem's still attached so I can compare the two graphs

Naughty engineer never left me a "Wireless N adaptor" Have used the "contact us" pages to see if I can get one
whats your ping monitor like on 8 down channels? yup you should have got a free one. call 150/151.
Will post the ping monitor later once I've had a good 8 hours on it.

Naughty engineer didn't bother fixing the power levels either.
8 downstreams and 1 upstream. Yikes.
They've dropped slightly now

Better too high than too low, they'll dip with the warmer weather, I'd stick with those

3dbs are pointless
I only have 4 downstream channels is that right ??? or is there a problem, have had major issues lately with broadband. They replaced the old cable modem with the super hub, this still caused problems as I had to wait 4hours + to get the steady blue light & service & every time I turned hub off it took this time to come on.
Not sure if fault is cleared now but powered down 3 times last night & hub booted up ok but have not risked turning hub off now in case the problem recurs.
Does the Super Hub have a built in Firewall ???

Yep, but like a lot of features on this device, it doesn't seem to work properly.
I believe the popular consensus is to turn it off. :dozey:
Thanks Mick, does anyone know where & how to turn it on/ off
Advanced menu >> Content Filtering >> Services to change the firewall settings

Is a downloadable manual available for the Superhub
http://www.virginmedia.com/superhub
Not exactly a manual but has an online userguide..
There's also this guide
http://www.virginmedia.com/myvirginmedia/superhub-guide.pdf
Thanks will copy that pdf over
Naughty engineer never left me a "Wireless N adaptor" Have used the "contact us" pages to see if I can get one
That was on the 9th and we've only just got a phone call from a CS agent..
Firstly they denied that they gave these out and insisted that I pointed out to him where on the website it say wireless N adaptor, so I pointed him towards
http://shop.virginmedia.com/broadband/up-to-50mb.html where it says "Free Virgin Media Super Hub wireless 'N' modem router plus wireless 'N' adapter"
He's gonna send one through though he's had to put it through as an order with the same amount discounted back
