Been away for a week, come back to two more Downstream Channels, anybody know what this is all about, only ever used to have four.

they are eventally goign to 8 downstream channels so it might your area has started getting the roll out of new downstream channel now it should mean your speed is more realible or getting to the target speed better than before

the upstream will also get more channesl in teh future to

Thanks for your reply.

Just checked, the double speed roll out is due in March for my area :)

I wonder then if 6 channels is their target for "double-speed" areas. I'm surprised upstream bonding still isn't in place. Without it 3 users on anything other than 5 or 20mb will pretty much max out the entire channel capacity.

6 is a bit worrying, considering it supposed to be 8, I hope its not more corner cutting and rather its work in progress.

I also agree with qasdfdsaq, VM should be prioritising upstream upgrades over downstream upgrades.

Upstream bonding will only provide improvement if they add fibre at the optical node. Oteherwise it's jsut a better form of load balancing, but the total upstream bandwidth remains as contended as before.

Or have I missed something?

You're right, it is just a better form of load balancing, and doesn't add any extra capacity in itself.

But on the other hand as far as load balancing gets, it's about the best form there is, and can balance on a per-packet/frame level, whereas right now VM's load balancing on the upstream is more on a per day/month level, if that.

Looks like its work in progress as my VM connection went off last night at just after midnight and came back on with 5 downstream channels.

Unfortunately another VM mend it , break it as it totally fell over at 18.00 for half an hour when traffic built up. After somebody rushed around switching the plug back on;) the usual spikiness is diminished.

Probably would be better off if VM upped the channels and left the speeds as they are, then perhaps pings and jitter would get near matching my ADSL.

The service is going to get poorer if they dont add any new US capacity, the bonding may slightly improve the effect of congestion but with the speeds been doubled I think the extra congestion will easily outweight that benefit.

I still only have 4 on the 30 meg :-/

That said I cant really complain about the speed, I get what I pay for (using wireless):

Get that pretty much every day all day.

there no defintion timescale for roolout, it seems to be spardic, parts of some areas get it but other part sof the same area dnt, and upload bonding has now started showing up but again spardic

My upload upgrade took forever!

Even when the Chart that VM have on their site said my area was done..it still didn't show up for about...3-4 months after.

did you reboot your modme after it said complteted? if not that most likely why, if oyu did then it most likely they said ti was completed when it wasnt
