how do you know oyu have upstream ultisation issues?

i am assuming you use multi devices,

can you post netstat -a and netstat -b from command prompt for each of oyur computers

also log into your modem and power your upstream and downstream power levels

theres nothing you can do about upstream utilisation, its network end and means the upstream is "over crowded", theres too many users for the network to handle, if VM are aware of this they should have published a fix date, if not, you should report it

One question,

Is it also because there's lots of Virginmedia's Costumers around our area?
Cause when i hit the Wireless icon bar where clock time is. It shows like 5 virginmedia wireless. wtf? if its a yes that this causes problem, i ma go take a knife in night i ma cut their cable -.-

Andrewcrawford23

you do that and you would have to be reported but 5 cusotmer near by would not makea diference they will be about 500-1000 cusotmer connected to the same place you are you wont find thm all, also you could potential have issues from yoru computer, i posted addiotnal test when your mate posted for oyu to try but you never ran them

---------- Post added at 07:10 ---------- Previous post was at 07:07 ----------

reboot into safe mode and do the following

netstat -a and netstat -b

and

can you connect the pc directly to the modem reboot the modem and run the ping -n 100 bbc.co.uk again please and also do tracert bbc.co.uk

Most customers leave their SSIDs on default so it'd be easy enough to find all the VM customers.

And while I wouldn't advocate violence, or disconnecting other people's service, one single user can use up 50% or more of the entire area's capacity with a single torrent, so I wouldn't say 5 would make no difference.

In fact all you'd have to do is find the one or two users transmitting the most upstream data (which is easy enough with a handheld Android phone and a wireless scanner app) and cut only their connections, but that wont solve VM's problem of insufficient upload capacity when the next person comes along.

whilst i agree with you in pronicole that one cusotmer can tae up to 50% of the capicty the problem is hwo would oyu know which one is, and yoru assuming the ones doing it are using wirelss there could be plenty of old cusotmer with modme and non virign wireles, and plenty with old modme and direct ocnnection and plenty with shub in modem mode and no wirelss, so using wireless to deterine the cusotmer who are with virign isnt a good idea it ocul find some but not all, but the threat of violance i not sometihn got be taken lightly no matter how bad yoru service it not the otehr cusotmer fault if virign over sell or under invest in the network

Yes it's possible but given most people don't know how to change the SSID or password, I'd postulate most don't know how to turn off the wireless either.

In fact, many first-year students I meet these days don't even know how to use an ethernet cable (!) and use the term "wireless" as their only understanding of "the internet"

rofl now this has cheered me consideirng i am bit un the weather today

, there coudl easily be 100 cusotmer who only have a modem and have ben wiht virign prior to it being virgin and wireless getting given out, when i signed up all oyu got was modem and netork card so if one of those is the 50% hog then the op will never find them
