TV / FM radio ntl splitter

When NTL first installed my cable TV in the lounge they installed a splitter to feed my FM radio, now that Virgin Media do not send FM radio, can I connect my Virgin Media cable modem to the "F" connecter so I can set my computer in the lounge?

At the moment the cable Virgin Media 256 modem is connected to a Virgin Media connecter upstairs.

i think you can as techincally you can move th device between the cable connectors but i wouldnt recommend it as i cant be sure if it will cause problems ie noise etc

I assume you have a Set Top Box connected to the 'TV' output? If so, connecting your cable modem to the FM output isn't going to work.

Basically you'll need to change the splitter to one with two TV outputs rather than one TV and one FM. I'd link to one on Media Cables' website but it seems to be down at the moment.

I assume you have a Set Top Box connected to the 'TV' output? If so, connecting your cable modem to the FM output isn't going to work.

That would be tampering with the Virgin Media box and I doubt if that is allowed for me to change the splitter.

That's a fair point and I can understand you not wanting to mess with the Virgin box.

Adding the splitter will reduce the signal level, I am looking at QAMTE VQ1002 which has a 3.5 db loss per leg, how much will that affect the signal to the TIVO and the Virging Media 256 modem.

Would the TIVO and the 256 modem be happy with the 3.5 db loss or would I need Virgin Media to adjust the signal levells to my house?

You would have to ask your TIVO and modem.

Qasi means that your downstream power level would need to be no lower than about -0 dBmv as reported in the modem stats. If your upstream power level is 52 dBmv or higher then adding a splitter could stress the modem.

As regards the Tivo, if it's good for the modem it's good for the Tivo which does not report downstream power.

In any case, some time in the summer (I think) our area will be upgraded to double speed; You'll go to 30 meg and be given a Super Hub.
