Bonjour.

I have a question. I have an NTL:250 cable modem. Where my PC is, there is no power sockets. So i use a 4-gang extension lead. But i unplu the lead when not using my PC, as the wire gets in the way of people walking to and fro. (Obviously, i don't want me old ma and pa to fall now, do i?)

So is it ok to basically power on and off the cable modem once, twice, sometimes three times a day?

I mean, it's not going to affect anything, is it? (Like IP addresses and all that).

After a month or two of doing this, it's been fine so far. So i imagine it'll be ok.

It should all be ok.

The modems are designed to be "always on" devices, but I can't see any harm being caused by you rebooting it evry day.

perhaps something to think about is getting a router (wireless) and a card for the pc...problem solved with the wires at the same time (at least no worrying bout the parents breaking their legs)

It is fine to do so.

The only thing you might notice is that your ip address will change from time to time, but this won't cause you any problems!
