So I got 50MB cable installed earlier. Linked by ethernet to the router everything was fine, full 50/5 speed as you'd expect. But connecting with anything I have (Laptop/PC/iPhone) through wifi is basically non-functional.

Right now my laptop is sitting on the same shelf as the router and the connection is bouncing between 1MB-18MB. This is after changing the channel from auto/1 (Which had a dozen different devices sitting on), from 300MB/s to 54MB/s and changing the encryption from WPAAuto to WPA2 none of which have made any difference whatsoever.

Measuring my download speed, if speedtest will load at all, gives a best speed of about 0.3MB and usually the upload is faster. Any ideas if I'm doing something wrong here? Cos it blows my mind that something as basic as wifi could be done so poorly.

What do you get via http://proof.ovh.net/

install inSSIDer (http://www.metageek.net/products/inssider/) on your wireless device/laptop. let it search for all networks within reach then look at the channel number each uses and set yours to one that isn't in use. They will range from 1-13.

which wireless chip do you have? expand network adapters
Vista/7 - Start > in the search box type in or copy/paste devmgmt.msc
XP - Start > Run > devmgmt.msc

Update, I changed the channel again (from 5 to 7) and the speed to 144. It now works perfectly, colour me confused.

long story short dude, there is nothing wrong with your laptop or any of the other wireless devices, it is all the superhub being not so super. If you continue to have problems bang it in modem mode and ask Santa for a proper router.

GM, you appear to have missed the OP's post above yours. It now works perfectly

Nope, that is why I said

If you continue to have problems

I'll rephrase and say "If you have any more problems"..........

Finally managed to max it out at 6MB/s over wifi, lovely :)

That's fairly low - I'm getting 11/3 on my iPad at the moment (about 25 feet from the Shub, through 3 walls).

I had issues with with my normal Virgin hub too and since I changed back to using it as modem only with my old router the wifi is as fast as the wired connection! I think this the only way for a good wifi connection

Note I said MB/s, not Mbps, 6MB = Just under 50Mbps :)

Ah, thanks for the clarification.
