do i need cable for the 30mb speed (http://shop.virginmedia.com/broadband/up-to-30mb.html)? im now with 20mb 40GB limit and want to upgrade but my new estate has no cable.

30mb is a cable package, so yes, you need cable. Though you can get 40mb without cable by going FTTC.
