As per title. Done speedtests and they come out decent but youtube for past couple of weeks is completely unusable. Dunno whether its a routing issue or what but everyone else i speak to on other isp's seems to be doing ok. Anyone any ideas???

I have the same issue on 50mb as well as my current 100mb. I live in the Neath area and I get my full speed 99% of the time day or night on pretty much most websites.

But when it comes to YouTube it's 50/50 whether I get good speeds or not. Some videos at 1080 will load instantly at 5-6MB/s and some 240 or 360 videos barley load at 90-100KB/s at then buffer and play, buffer and play. It's a bloody pain .

My friend was having the same problem yesterday evening, i logged into my youtube channel at his house, tried to play a video in fullscreen which switched it to 720p and it played about 5 seconds before buffering about 10 seconds, this continued until we dropped it to 480p, and even then it still buffered occasionally. To rule out any wireless problems he moved the router and connected via cable, speedtest was about 18mb.

I don't use virgin media any more so i can't do another test here, but he tells me it's been the same for months and most other streaming video sites run fine for him.

Exactly the same issue here, and at my friends house too. Some people have complained on the VM boards too. i have a 30Mb connection and even on some 240p videos, it begins to buffer. On the other hand i also have a Sky Broadband connection and am able to play 1080p movies flawlessly, defo a problem on the VM network, and appears to happen in the late afternoons and evening.

I've had the same issue on my 30mbit connection the last couple of nights. I've got a regular modem. The only thing that fixed it was going down to 240p. I'm not sure if they store different resolutions on different servers as it buffers the entire video very quickly on 240p.

Same on 50Meg, i can actually load the same video, at the same time, faster on my parents 6meg connection, defintely a youtube issue

Its been very slow at peak time for me over the last week or so and them is fine off peak.

I have the VMNG300 on 50Mbit friends are also having problems with the superhub on 50Mbit.

its perfectly fine now. but come around 5pm onwards till about 12am it'll lag constantly and become almost unusable.

It cant be a YouTube issue because as i said at the same time on the same video, it'll load flawlessly on my "3" mobile connection from my phone with 1 bar and my sky broadband connection, but switch to Virgin 30Mb and face this issue.

Tell me... are all of you using a superhub?

Had the issue on the VMNG300 modem (50mb service) and my current superhub (100mb) as well as my previous 10mb and 20mb when they were both top of the range speeds (Ambit 100 silver modem and Virgin 250 blue one)

When is comes to speed and reliability I have no issues with any website, but YouTube videos are always completely random whether or not they will load quickly. I can always upload videos though at full speed, just streaming is the problem.

I never have issues on my grandfathers 8mb Sky broadband when loading 1080p, but my 100mb sometimes can't even load 240p, damn you Virgin

At other times 1080p videos will download at between 3 and 8MB/s.

Take a look at the following.
http://www.youtube.com/my_speed

It also shows the ISP/Network speed over time on YouTube.

Click show test video, and then change the quality to 480p.
Let us know what speed you're getting (shown next to HTTP) at the first 10 seconds of the video. If the video has fully buffered it will show 0 since nothing else will be streamed.

Once done in 480p, give 720p a shot. If you are on a Netbook or low-end computer not capable on 720p please exclude this.

480p, getting around 28000-38000 kbps
720p, getting around 17000-30000 kbps

30Mb, using Superhub with "Very Good" signal strength (on other side of house).

Your average video speed at this location from 27 Jun 2011 to 26 Jul 2011 was 14.67 Mbps.

I've had the same issues with youtube for as long as I can remember, on the 50mb (vnmg modem thing) and now with 100mb and the superhub.

The test video works fine, but most other videos do not, they either don't stream properly (constant buffering) or load fine.

It's very hit and miss, but mostly miss.

If I make the mistake of trying to fast forward, say, by clicking a minute into a video, it'll just sit there with the spinning wheel, while it tries to load, 30 seconds or more can pass by before it kicks in again, or not at all.

At this time I get a very steady 50000kbps through all qualities and youtube in general at this time is great everything streams with no problems but when it hits evening through to about midnight speeds seem to hit a brick wall all of a sudden where I can only get about 500kbps and have to wait for pretty much every video to buffer.

I still personally think its congestion on Virgins network.

Had the same problem with Youtube when I was with VM on my 10Mb connection, even switching to 240p wouldn't help some time with buffering or even non-starting videos.

Since I've been with Talk Talk at the beginning of May, Youtube has been fine, can now watch HD videos, they never played more than a few seconds before constant buffering on VM.

Youtube has ALWAYS been bad at peak, since I've experienced the same problems on othe ISP's I don't think VM can do a great deal about it unless it's down to which providers are used to route to the US. If you use an ipad as I do it gets even worse because the built in app automatically selects the highest quality stream.
The only solution I've found is to use a downloader, YourTube on IOS or an addon (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/easy-youtube-video-downl-10137/) for Firefox.

Bad peering FTL.

That said unless you're comparing the same video from the same CDN server at the same time, it's hard to rule out the hundred other factors that might be involved.

I've had issues with Youtube in the evenings on a gigabit JANET connection, it really doesn't say much.

I don't know if this is acceptable to a lot of you with these issues but..

I had the same issues, I upgraded to 100Mb ,still had issues, had a VMNG300 sent out still the same issues.

My solution....I had a ADSL2+ Line installed and use it for online gaming,VoIP etc. I'm sure VM must be working to sort these problems out. But unfortunately as they won't let me out the contract I have to pay for a VM line and a ADSL line.

Just cancel your direct debit until they fix it. I did that when T-Mobile stopped covering my house and I had constant no-signal problems. They had several opportunities to fix it but didn't, so in the end I stopped paying since they were no longer supplying the service. They sent a couple of nasty letters, I sent a couple back clearly stating that I would be happy to resume payment once the problem was resolved, and after a while they gave up and went silent.

Yup, I get the same issues. I am not a big downloader, I just use my connection for internet and gaming. The only reason I have 50mb is so I when I do want something downloaded I do not have to wait ages! However Virgins youtube connection is nothing short of shocking.

VM has posted a thread regarding the issues with YouTube and other streaming sites. It would be nice if people experiencing issues also reply to the thread with the information requested so the issue can be fixed as soon as possible.

Since switching to Sky's unlimited package, I've had no problems at all with Youtube, at any time of the day.

I still have a live Virgin line till the 8th of September and as a test, I switched back to it, cleared my browsers cache and low and behold, the same stuttering/buffering video problems came back, mostly in the evenings again.

Awful Youtube speed last night (LE11, 30mb, around 8:30). Speedtests came out fine. Youtube's own speed page indicated that my speed was around 9mb for the last month (which should be OK) but then their test video exhibited the same problem I usually have - loaded like the clappers for a bit, then absolutely nothing. Everything else (OnLive included) is fine.

I had been having problems with youtube for so long, about 2 weeks ago VM came over and installed a 6dB forward path attenuator to my modem, saying that would fix the problems with youtube and streaming, and it did. 1080p videos now stream at full speed even during evening times.

I would advise anyone facing these issues to head over to VM community forum, and report this issue

i get some issues with 480p videos streaming, but when i switch to 720p (if there is the option) the video streams in seconds.

i have a feeling i read somewhere that it's something to do with youtube putting priority bandwidth to hd videos, thus causing sd ones to stream slower, but i may've just come up with that thought in the past myself :)
