Post your 100Mb speed and ping

We have threads about the Hub and the VMNG and when and if 100Mb will come to where, I'd like to see a thread just to display a speed test and ping test if you don't mind :D

No arguing .. just results .. I think my results clearly show Speedtest.nt isn't great .. finding one that could take 100Mb was difficult ..

Can you do speed.io please :D shows more information then speedtest.net; it rounds up speeds to take into account overheads though

My 100mb connection literally breaks speed.io and always gives a reading of either 30001kb/s or 30003kb/s

Here is mines running hard wired into a VMNG300

Suggested, this is up the road from me, the VM network tech for here told me it only runs on a 10mb line so isnt good for speed rating

Namesco seems to be all over the place today. The Network admin had access to a special VM tech service that downloads a 1gb file and even though speedtest was showing high 60's to mid 70's it was grabbing the file at 95mb/s easilly.

At the end of the day none of these are a clear indication of what you're actually getting. It would be smart for VM to give their users a legit place to test their 100mb connections as not a lot of the speedtest sites can handle it!

Speed.io for lulz - Just watched it go to at least 38000kb/s then reset to 0kb/s. Useless!

Are you using firefox? I only get 30,000 on firefox on speed.io for some reason and it lags up

Whilst it is indeed true that the performance of any speed test site varies according to the load on the remote box, how many leechers are sucking down 'distros' on my segment, and the colour of socks that were chosen after I showered, the results downloading from Virgin's mirror site (on the local network) were just as poor. I will attempt all again at 7am tomorrow morning, when the network load should be lighter, to see the difference.

I would suggest that it's flooding http connections to the remote server. Perhaps useful for torrenting? No idea as I don't partake in such skullduggery.

It means more connections can be made to and from your computer; E.g. if you load a website every file and pictures a separate file; each will be using 1 connection 2500 connections a minute means arround 40 connections a second = a minimum of 1 second to load 40 files

This is how i understand it anyway; I could be well off :)

Luckily I didn't ask you, as this isn't even close to the speed I'm downloading at ..

Speedtest servers just cant handle this speed ..

One of their guys regularly posts on another site I use. They are a good bunch and pretty well respected. They arent shy about dropping hosts that can't handle the bandwidth either. Their US servers can handle some pretty silly speeds.

Namesco is supposed to be on a gigabit pipe, but ther'es a lot of other variables than just plain pipe speed. For one the actual download test files seem to be generated and encoded on-the-fly.

Download speeds are great from NewsGroups I get ~11.4MB/sec (linux iso's I promise) :D
