I hope I get one - I am having to make a lot of 0845 calls at the moment and they are mounting up

Same here dilli. I wonder what the criteria is for the offer or whether it will be across the board?

I'd guess it's package dependent in that it will be free only if you have inclusive minutes at the time of day you would call it. As we have only weekend calls then I'd not expect it to be free for us during the week but certainly at the weekend.

I had the same letter and signed up this morning. It said that the 250 minutes could be used at any time.

So are only certain people getting this? I have to faff about looking for alternatives to 0845/0870 numbers. It would be nice if I didn't have to do this.

I got a letter after returning from a few days away - will be signing up.

Always used 'saynoto0870' so this will be good.

Thanks PsyCrow, I know the link is in the letter virginmedia.com/justforyou
All it does it take me to VM's site and no option to register for the Talk08 add on.
I have trawled through all the pages and there's no option anywhere for me to register.

This offer is for specially selected customers who received an email from us. If you haven’t received one this time, keep an eye on your inbox – it could be you next time! Like this!

Seriously? Why not everyone?

Worked fine here, just need to follow the link in the letter.

Wait until 15th August and email before activated.

Its actually better than that (turn your letter over) - from August you will get 0870 calls (but NOT 0845) included in your particular tariff, in the same way and to the same extent as 01,02 & 03.

The add-on you have to register for covers 250 minutes of 0845 calls or 0870 calls outside the time of day/week covered by your tariff bundle.

Yes, I know its as clear as mud and the way the two will work together will have to be clarified but its a start.

I received a letter this morning about price increases and the free 0870 calls. There was no mention of registering for 0845 numbers.
Will this be sent under separate cover or is it just for the chosen few?
Did I ask this yesterday? *confused*

inneedofhelp

Just for the chosen, I'm afraid.

I got a letter today which is probably the same that Moira received. I have the Anytime Call package, and the letter stated that calls to 0870 numbesr will be free and included in this package from 1st August. You don't have to register, I guess registration is only required for other packages, I don't really know:confused:

From what I gather everyone gets the free 0870 calls from August, but only the chosen few get the 0845 deal. I actually think it's quite unfair as I'm sure we all try to avoid calls that are going to cost us money on top of what we are already paying. It's one thing giving away 1,000 free TIVO boxes to the 'lucky few' as you can't really expect them to give them free to everyone, but I think this is just plain mean

I just think it depends what package you're on, and there's always saynoto0870 for 0845 numbers

I think all those 0844/0845/0870/0871 numbers should be free. My GP surgery has just started using an 0844 number, which means a connection fee of over 12p and then over 8p a minute for the call. Considering how long you are kept on hold after going through various menus, I think it sucks

Not sure what package you have to be on to get the free 0845/0870 deal, but the friend I have who has just got it has a more basic package than ours. I always use the saynoto0870 site but over the years it's got harder to find numbers as more companies change to only having the paid numbers

inneedofhelp
16-06-2011, 15:22
What you should fairly be saying @AlabasterLyn is that companies who use these numbers (which give them revenue at our expense) should be using 01-03 numbers or better still freephone numbers. This is especially galling when it is a communications company profiting from poor service as Virgin tried to do previously.

I got a letter today telling me about the proposed increase and that I will get 0870 calls for free, but nothing about 0845. The tariff on the back of the letter also does not mention 0845.

Yes good point, many companies you can contact by email etc., but for GP surgeries to adopt phone numbers that cost their patients such a lot is really not very good at all.

I got the 'price increase' letter last week but have to admit I didn't read it carefully. I saw this thread and dug it out this morning, and right there in the middle of the letter was the information about the 'just for you' offer so have signed up. I wouldn't have even noticed it if I hadn't seen this thread - and even reading this thread I thought it was a separate notice to the increase letter, but it wasn't.

Yes I found that one, but its not "sayno" I just hopped "sayno" would be there as I use it a lot on my Mac

The reviews on 0870 are not good but I suppose they will be subjective

Thanks for the reply,

Can anyone confirm the date this is supposed to kick in? I registered for the 'Just For You' promotion, and I note the only date in this thread is 15th Aug, but I have yet to recieve my email confirming it is all active. I can't remember what the date on the registration screen was, as an email never followed and I didn't write it down.

Has anyone else got their email yet?

I got an email only last week saying this had now been activated on my line.

So I have a feeling it was like a queue system and someone somewhere will let you know when it has been activated as long as you filled out the info correctly at the time of sign up however.

AndyCalling

Thanks.

Looking at my online account now, it is showing two changes showing as initiated from 02/08 (though they did not show at that time):

Telephone Line Rental
Talk 08 2

Changes to bundle total - £0.64

I'm not sure why the 64p charge, I assume that's to do with the line rental change which must be to do with the price increase? I expect I'll see when the full bill is issued.

I have yet to receive an email telling me this change has been activated, or what the '2' means at the end of 'Talk 08 2'. Oh well.

Mine is showing the charge then lower down it's showing a refund of the charge as I signed up for the free offer. The discount is shown separate from my bundle.

Also worth noting something that might seem obvious but 0844 numbers are not included. I've had a couple of calls to them this month and they've been charged. So we still need the saynoto0870 website for those :(
