50M What is 6100KB/s in connection speed terms? [Archive]

Never hit that sort of speed before but downloading a game demo off the newsgroups I'm getting about 6100KB/s for pretty much the entire 2gb file download. That to me seems to be nearing a 57-60mb connection or have I miss-calculated that to connection speed?

That's around 47Mbit/s, 6400KB/s is the theoretical max on 50Meg.

Edit: 6100KB/s divide 1024 to get 5.95MBytes/s then multiply by 8 to get 47.6Mbits/s

6625kb is the actual limit set in the config file (53mb)

however you will never achieve this speed, taking overheads into account etc

It's KB and yes a capital B is very important.

I have hit 6.8 MB/sec via IDM.

I usually get a very stable 6.5 - 6.7 MB/sec.

Right now i get 6.5 MB/sec but I have hit 6.8 MB in the past....

6.8MB = 54.4mb so no, you havnt it was a false reading, you are limited to 53mb by the config file

So now you're saying you get mixed up between kB and kb, yet you earlier clearly said kB and kb were the same thing.

There is no mix up when you clearly state they are the same thing. Getting them confused yes I CAN UNDERSTAND.....But clearly saying they are the same thing then using the dunces cap emot...

An in your previous post you also say 6625kb is 53mb...It isnt.

53,000/8 = 6,600 KB/s =

6.6 MB/s.

So, no.

it doesnt really matter does it, let's face it, 6.anythingmb/sec is bloody amazing if you can sustain it. I have hit 6.1 two or three times but mine pretty much maxes out around 5.5/5.6

and about 30% of website that i've visited seem to max out about 1.5 - 3 MB/s; when theres still ample bandwidth left because i could go and start another download and the first wouldn't be affected

To be honest that was only the first time I noticed the speed being stable at that level. It's probably also worth noting that the connection speed is not the only factor involved of cause.

If in my case your downloading a latest game demo. The capability of the server is also a factor as is others downloading off the same server and or the same thing at the same time. And the connection\line speed of the server to.

So for me to have got 6.1 for pretty much the entire 2gb or so is very good going I'd say.
