View Full Version : Upload speed jitter?

I've been trying to stream lately, and even on low bitrate, low resolution, etc my upload is just extremely bad.

I'm only on 10mb/512k but it can handle the stream fine, my ping won't be that high at all, then the spiking starts..

Starts 100ping when im streaming (more than happy with)
Then 200,300,400,500.. then goes back down to 100, rinse and repeat every 5-10 seconds, sometimes it just stays at 500 for a while.

Like i know it can stream it around 100ping because it drops down to 100 just as much as it raises to 500.

Tempted to upgrade to 30mb/1mb but if theres no point if it's unable to sustain the correct speed.

I always get 9.8+mbs down, 0.45k+ up on speedtest.net and don't have any issues with speeds or jitter in terms of download.

Anyone else able to stream using VM connections? Anyway to test upload speed consistancy? Or just any tips, or info would be much appreciated.

If your upload is being fully utilised by the stream that could be the reason why

When you're uploading it causes lots of jitter. Or I think it's something else happening, but it's tested as jitter.
Anyway, basically you can't upload (even a smal amount of data) and play games for example, at the same time on such a small amount of bandwidth available.
I am in a similar boat to you and it sucks.
I think 30Mb is actually 3Mb upload, if your area has had the upgrade that is.

Yeah i noticed if i cap my stream to around 350k then the lag doesnt spike much at all, but the quality is shocking.

Just upgraded from 10mb to 30mb, it was only an extra £2.50per/m with an activation fee of £30.

Unfortunately 30/3 isn't available yet but even if i cap my stream at 700-800k, i shouldn't have any problems and quality should be great, in theory :P

never saturate your upload if you care about latency as that will make it tower.

Did you have to have one of their crappy SuperHubs or do you still have a real modem?

Using a superhub; please out what is "crappy" about these results. :dozey:

Nothing, but you said you had jitter.

I'll have the superhub on wednesday, currently still on 10mb using the standard hub. I've also heard my upload speeds will be increases in about a months time, so i'll have 30/3 which will be sweet.

Will see how superhub compares with the standard hub
