View Full Version : Superhub superhub on 50mb is pathetic

I had broadband fitted on tuesday and i am totally fed up of this super hub, getting no where near 50mb and the wireless N is slower than my old sky router.

My parents are on the 50mb and they have a modem and router, id be happier with that set-up.

Any ideas on how i can get the seperate router and modem?

Call retentions (150 then "thinking of leaving us") and say you want the VMNG300 because the SH is woeful. You may get someone who can help, but you may have to contact the CEO's office to get one.

But before you do that, try changing the wireless speed to something lower (iirc, its around 145mbps that is the setting that seems to fix the majority of wireless speed issues. Wont fix the range, though)

Why do you think its the Super Hub ?

Power levels ok ? had the CMTS checked for SNR? FEC errors ? utilisation ?

As I have said on numerous occasions Retentions cannot send modems out and no department has ever had the ability to send out a VMNG300 modem plus they are no longer on the system anyway.

The VMNG300 is getting to be as rare as hens teeth.

ceo office can and are sending them out. They have gave no indication yet that they about to run out either. I was told if activations give me trouble on monday then I can ring them direct and they will activate me.

Why would they tell you anything different, they know that the stock of these modems are finite and that they are as rare as hens teeth, do you really believe the is a secret warehouse somewhere with the number 13 above the door.

So when people upgrade and Virgin take their VMNG300 away what do they do with it?

jb66

Exactly, it'll be at a big warehouse waiting to be recycled/cleaned. The only way to get a vmg300 is the CEO office, retentions can only send an engineer who will scratch his head then give you another superhub

it may be finite but that doesnt mean they super rare and about to run out.

At the same time there might only be a few left and not hundreds of them.

My Superhub works fine and i get almost the full 50meg but for some reason my upload speed has dropped from 4.7 to 2.4meg and nobody can seem to explain.
Aparently my modem stats are all good.
Perhaps a VM staff member can help me out if reading this.

I got my superhub installed on 50 on tuesday. Getting 50 as download but only scrapping 1 on upload. Have 2 ps3's (1 upstairs and 1 downstairs) both running fine with no dropouts (ie kids not moaning) along with main pc (wired) and mrs laptop (wireless). so far no real problems...................yet....

it may be, but masque didnt say may, he said as if its fact. Looks to me you guys are actively trying to discourage people from ditching the superhub.

I don't think its worth arguing with you about it, as you're not willing to listen.

Superhubs are in VMNGs are out ..

Technically, the SuperHub is part of the VMNG family :D

As each area gets its 100meg enabling, there will be more VMNG300's available from poor saps upgrading. So I don't think they will be running out for a while.

Those modems will not be put back in the inventory so they cannot be used.

They will go back to the CEO's office if past posts by installers/other vm staff are anything to go by. Then they will be sent out to people fed up of the superhub.

Doubtful, the ones being used are probably the last new ones that are left that never went out to customers as the CEO's office cannot readd modems to the inventory, as I have said before the stock of VMNG300 modems is finite and sooner rather than later they will run out.

Lets see then, by your reckoning the modem I been promised today wont show up. Will update on this later today. (monday, still not midnight)

you claiming they get thrown away?

I been told different from an internal source, on top of that the cable modem I got for my 20mbit service was most defenitly not brand new, was clearly a used one. Didnt bother me as long as it worked but pointing it out as VM do reuse modem's returned.

As the company wants everyone on hubs it is rather unlikely that they will add used VMNG300 modems back onto the inventory as this is not what Virginmedia want and as I have always said these modems have never been on the system for us to replace, we can replace any hub on an account with a hub as we have that permission.

what I am asking is what do you think they do with them? I am not asking if VM want to reuse them or not but what is done with them. They go somewhere or get thrown away, which is it.

I would expect as they are no longer used they may be put in a recycling bin back at the engineers depot but you will need a engineer to confirm such as jb66.

mine is here now, no box etc. a used vmng300 surrounded in shrinkwrap :D delivered by normal postman as well.

will do pingtest etc. before changing over and have comparison.

ok is delayed for 2 days :p

my guy off for 2 days and tech support wouldnt deal with it. They offered to put me on hold again for another department but I said I will get back to them in 2 days.

I had a look in the gui tho and the modem itself is much nicer looking than the superhub, flat design and fits in the small gap where I had the old modem.

When I get a vmg300 I hand it into stores and they send it to the big red shed. What they do with it there I dont know.

Chrysalis can you call the quickstart team?

I just had a very good conversation with a high level tech, about the beta firmware etc. I am not the first who gave him the feedback I gave him either. Is good people like him work for VM at least.

This has been dragging on for 2 and a half months. I do not have the will or inclination to talk to VM about it again but will swap to Sky once my year's tie in is over.

I'd say no, but knowing this forum, it will work and give you 500Mb ..

In theory it will have been removed from your account ..

Sorry to dissapoint you but I (and I assume others) have not dreamt up the differences between a modem and the superhub. I have never claimed tho that speeds are higher, I had full 30mbit on the superhub as well. But latency spikes are different as well as the bugs that exist and confirmed by multiple users.

What are you rambling on about now ?

I was pointing out that every time someone asks a question about how things work, the answer is never what actually happens for them ..

Maybe you have something to hide assuming I was talking about you and your stories ..

Give it a go. VM don't seem to nuke modems from their accounts all the time so it may work but if the 'upgrade' was done correctly it wont work.

I wonder what would happen if two working modems were hooked up? Double the speed! :p
