View Full Version : What does fragametation mean?

No, not fragmentation... fragametation...

I noticed this on my modem config:
Modem Capability : Concatenation Enabled, Fragametation Enabled, PHS Enabled

Is this a genuine word or a majorly bad spelling of a known word?

I tried googling it and the only reference to it seems to be on these modems?

Just curious...

It's a spelling mistake by some programmer.

See the following item which will explain all:

I noticed today when logging into my Webstar 2100 cable modem that the title of the webpage is wrong. It reads:

Scientific-Altanta WebStar Cable Modem

Altanta?

are you 100% correct masque
It says the same on our emulators, so a question rather than a silly remark would have been better.

Also a simple google would have turned up trumps if you look at the screenshot below as the error is on their part as the heading on the top of the page shows and above the purple system button, it has always been there and surprisingly I have seen this many times in work.

If you look at the screen shot above you will find it is mis spelt on the modems page and I have seen this so many times on our emulator.

It is a mistake on the part of Scientific Atllanta who put the incorrect details into their own equipment, which means that it was not a sudden error that has just appeared overnight.

No need to be alert when I already knew it was not an error.

No one said its a sudden error.

You said "its correct" when clearly its not.

It is a mistake on the part of Scientific Atllanta who put the incorrect details into their own equipment
Now you just said its a mistake (contradicting your previous post).

No need to be alert when I already knew it was not an error.
Make your mind up. :erm:

Of course its an error - an error by Scientific Atlanta (one L btw). :dozey:

It is a known error that has always been in that modem so the spelling is correct hence the googled screenshot which clearly shows it.

It is something we are well aware of in work as everyone notices it during training as we are shown all the configuration pages via emulators and via live modems in the training centre.

You even get asked to spot anomalies.

A known error cannot be correct, ever.

It is correct insofar as it will never show the correct spelling in those modems as neither Scientific Atlanta or the new company Cisco have ever been bothered to change it which is the reason I said it was correct because they all have the same spelling.

The correct spelling is everywhere else such as the front and on the rear sticker but the config pages all say Altanta.

It does not matter how much you coat it in bull crap its still gonna be wrong whether accepted and left or corrected

How about sticking to the topic or leaving the issue alone?

You would think the company who make the modems would make sure the words are spelt correctly on there products.

You would think the company who make the modems would make sure the words are spelt correctly on there products.

You would also think that if they can make such glaring mistakes there must be others that are maybe a bit more critical.

;)But they've even got those the wrong way round...

Seriously though: When I see simple errors in spelling and grammar, I wonder how much care the manufacturer has taken in the rest of their work.

I'm not sure I agree with that. The important issue here is whether adequate testing has been done of hardware and software to ensure it works. Spelling is cosmetic.

the hardware will be tested thoughroughly, not in the case of the superhub, but usually

companies will have a testing team, however they wont have a spellcheck team. if the testing team notices the misteake, they will probably make sure it is rectified.

however in the example give, it is very hard to see the error
