Only just had my super hub installed today, rang technical help twice, spoke to both for 15/20 minutes, they said they'll speak to a supervisor, then never called me back :( Through an ethernet, i get 45/50 megs on speedtest.net, wifi, two different PCs between 8-15. My wifi signal is 95-100% on both PC's.

Eventully, someone has just called me back. He asked what network cards i have in my laptop and PC, i told him they can both support up to 54m and 300m respectiviley, so that isnt a problem.... his solution...

They're sending me a wireless card?! Which i should of had with my installtion? I told him, i cant see how thats going to work. Then i got through to customer relations to extend my grace period, which was more head banging stuff.

Got to say, not impressed by all of this.

If the network card (or whatever it is they're sending me) works, ill take it all back.

My suspiciouns are the hub itself...

Not a good start to my VIP package :(

They are sending you a wireless n dongle. Some wifi issues (atheros network cards) can be fixed by going to windows update and chose additional updates.

Clutching at straws:

My wifi works better on channel 1 even though my next door neighbour is on it.
I'm not sure if this device can broadcast g and n at the same time, if it cant you could try doing a speedtest with all g devices disconnected.
Sometimes changing the wifi from 300meg to 150 can make the wifi more stable, you could try that.

ah i see, well i hope that works :)

They logged in and set it to 145, which to be honest, helped it.

was getting speeds of 22 now... put it down to 54, getting around the same. will keep it at that. thanks for your help

Have you tried running Inssider to see what the wireless congestion is like in your area?

http://www.metageek.net/products/inssider/

Stable ethernet and fluctuating wireless sounds like either a wireless adapter issue or a local spectrum issue (leaving Superhub issues aside for now).

Give us a shout if you need more assistance.

on old b/g wireless devices the throughput is limited to less than half the stated speed.... this article explains stuff (http://www.oreillynet.com/wireless/2003/08/08/wireless_throughput.html) :)

so 54mb/s card will not likely see more than 26mb/s... the slower speeds you are experiencing are prob due to congestion etc as well. You will need to have all your wireless devices use the new N class dongle, what they are sending you

NAh thats cool, i dont really use the laptop. Looking forward to the dongle.... my wifi card on my PC is up to 300mb/s... and the connection keeps dropping every so often too... could be d/l at 1.5mb, then dies to 90kb, then up to 800kb, down to 30kb... GRRRRR

Hopefully the dongle will sort me out

Thanks for your help guys

What type of installation should be sent a wireless 'N' dongle?

My laptop only has a 'G' network card and, as expected, my wireless speeds on 50Mb connection only reach around 20-23Mb. I was considering installing a new wireless card in my laptop, but if I could be saved the hassle....?

A little tip I stumbled across with wifi was to drop in the hub settings 802.11 to 145mbps.

Hub/wireless settings.
A lot of people without an "n" connection or people struggling to connect find this a big advantage.

Put mine to 54 will max it out when I get the dongle.

To the guy two posts above. Apparently without the m you'll only get 25 max with others... Which is what I'm getting at the mo. Will keep you posted though...

You will never get full speed with G and will have to use the N dongle but what I said was a stability tip.

Sorry I meant n!

Nope.

It flatters to deceive.

After changing the setting to 11/13 etc. It starts off 40/50 on speed test, then it hovers around 11/12 after about 10 minutes. I give up. This is rubbish, but im paying less than i was before i changed. :(

Just done another test and got 50+, i give up, it seems it'll give me 50meg when it wants too!

Sorry to go on...

I just tried this;

http://www.thinkbroadband.com/download.html

Watched it jump to 4, down to 3, up to 3.5, down to 2, stay at 2 for a couple of mins, climb again to 2.5/3, down to 1.8, up to 3.5.

VIRGIN MEDIA PLEASE SORT IT OUT! :D
