Hey, just saw this new feature on Speedtest.net

They're called Speed Waves, where you all participate and collect results. You can also earn achievements in which you can battle other participants i.e the fastest uploader will get the 1UP achievement.

Join a speed wave:

Cable Forum Speed Wave: Click Me (http://www.speedtest.net/speedwave.php?h=be70b9a050dedf07)

Telford & Wolverhampton: Click Me (http://www.speedtest.net/wave/2221961d734b3753)

Feel free to create your own regional variants for others and post here!

Edit: Forgot to add, any ISP can do the test whether you're on Virgin or not. Feel free to test!

Help:

Open up the link, create an account if not already got one (optional), and then "Join this Speed Wave"
You will be given the standard Speedtest.net interface on the following page, however all results will be saved to the Wave.

Once you've finished:

Share your username or ID of your result. I am JTaylor69 on the results.
Also state what speed you should be getting. I am on 30Mb.

You can also see some nice stats by clicking "More Wave Stats" - on here you can see popular browsers, ISPs, bandwidth used, and badge winners.

Poor result? You can try the test as many times as you like! The competition is on guys!

Have fun guys :)

Haha!
Ouch, #243536191 (Liverpool, GB) had a poor test for 50Mb. Either they used a poor server, or their settings need adjusting :)

could be the server. for some reason it always tries to default me to the maidenhead server which is very hit and miss at the best of times.

Ooh, it went live finally. Was in the beta, there were some obnoxious speeds posted by google employees in the test Wave (they were pushing 1gbs/sec).

I just took fastest upload on the forum group :p

I like how there is a BE test at the bottom.

UK's best adsl isp not even coming closing to cable due to limitations of poor adsl tech.

Not bad, and most of the results are peak time too.
VM are doing well for broadband, they will certainly stand out once the July change in ISP practices takes action!
Typical speed ranges will look superior, but that's obvious due to the way it's delivered :p:
