If it is Virginmedia supplied router they will replace it under warranty so call up and get it sorted on the 50Mb Support line which is 0800 052 0431.

Not sure how you're testing your speeds but as you cannot get 30mb+ on Wireless 'G' there's something clearly wrong with the tests.

We need to figure out you're running accurate speed tests before we can know there's something wrong with your connection speed.

Can you please post
a) What speed tests you're running
b) How you're running them
c) Actual direct results links

Was using speedtest.net https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/local/2011/03/109.png (http://www.speedtest.net)

And downloading 2 x 100MB files (see screenie attached)
I think ill call that help line for new router

They will check your speed with and without the router as it is Virginmedia supplied equipment and if shown to be faulty they will replace the router.

Looks more like wireless interference is the problem (try changing channels) or a client issue - still, that ping is way higher than it should be and I still don't get how it could be reporting 30mb on G.

Can you post a result using your old G router please. Also, do you have any antivirus or internet security software installed (particularly Kaspersky)?

are you connecting to the router and trying to run the speed tests wired or wirelessly?

Those are your modem stats, not router stats, and I don't see a speed test showing 30mb with a G router.

Anyhow, if you're getting a D-Link 615 as a replacement, it's a pretty decent device and fairly reliable, so let's hope it fixes your issues. If not, I'd look at wireless channelling and interference, which is the other common cause for these things.

Interesting, that's impossible on G wireless (I assume you're connected wirelessly?) so there's something wrong with your setup or tests. Do you have any AV or IS software running?

Hi, i have Virgin Media Security and Microsoft Essentials running...
Im connected to G router by Ethernet, but i get near same speeds on laptop using wifi
*update from VM* they called me to say they will have to charge me £60 for new replacement router! As on their records i do not have a router from them, as you can imagine i explained politely that i did receive the Black Netgear N router a few weeks before VM technician visited with new 50Mb Modem
They are querying with customer services and will call me back...

The saga continues...

If you do not receive a callback then call tomorrow morning as soon after 0800 as possible as they may need to have the wireless code added to your account before a router can be sent out, and only Customer Services can do that.

You get a N router as part of your 50Mb package so the is no need to pay for one and sometimes the wireless code is not put on the account.

buuuuuuuuuuuuut, if they do tell make you pay for one tell them to forget it and you'll buy your own (much better for less)

So call in on 151 from a Virginmedia phone line or 0845 454 1111 from any other phone line and a technical support agent will help you.

Well... my router turned up today... not a D-Link as they stated but a bl++dy Superhub
Its a disaster, activated it etc and not even getting 10Mbps on speedtest.net :(
Ive read the next update is not until May...

Do i just go ahead and buy myself a new router?

Dissapointed...

Ok, latest update....

Called VM today and explained fluctuating speed tests.
The guy on other side (English spoken) told me he knew what's wrong, went into advanced settings, unticked a few things (firewall and DDos something i think it was) saved and exit. 2mins later ... i get constant 50Mb and webpages load in a flash...im a happy man now :)
