Hi, I have just had 30mb broadband fitted and am experiencing very slow internet browsing. I have to keep clicking "Try Again" for even the simplest web pages.

I did a speed test and it was fine (31mb!)

I did a ping test on pingtest.net:

Anything other than 0% is supposed to be a worry? (a friend down the road on 50mb has 0% packet loss)

I did a line test on dslreports.com and got full passes?:

Is this a problem at my end? I'm going to ring Virgin tomorrow.

Hi there,

I assume you have had the new super hub installed.

Turn off IP Flood detection - that will resolve the issue.

I had the same issue, I was getting 30Mb speeds fine, so I couldn't understand the issue so I did what you did and bam 0% packet loss, glad I am not the only one.

I am having the same issue but when I looked at the IP flood detection my is not ticked by default, I called Virgin to day and they said at first that there was no issue, and we would need to change some settings, then before we logged into the new router, he changed his mind and said that there were issues in the area and the issue would be fixed by the 24th!

Thing is I have only had this packet loss issue since the new installation of the Netgear 30MB router

If anyone has ideas what else might be causing high packet loss (mine is constantly up at 90%) would be gratefully recieved.

hi all i know what your problem is(sort of)

since September 2011 iv had the same issue on virgin media MB
its now may 2012!!!!!
i wouldn't try to update my PS and it would download but corrupt at 14% install.
the pc and laptop was similar everything would download but on install it would fail.

iv had a total of 6 virgin engineers out in this time.

the first told me my levels was to low
the second to hi
the third couldn't find the issue
the four ordered me a new super hub
the fifth reset my routers setting
and the sixth was a young lad who had not long finish training but give me a answer

The answer is its there server that you are connected to. I cant remember the correct name he used I think it was upd but not sure....
basically there end is dropping the data so your device cant put it together correctly

call them up tell them you want to leave there service( only so they put you straight though to Scotland instead of India then tell them you will stay if they send a engineer out to sort it then tell him what iv said and hell log it and that will start the ball rolling to get it sorted. I am still waiting though 1 month so far since the last visit

This thread you've reopened dates back to early 2011. The problem then was as advised - turn off IP Flood detection in the Superhub settings. That particular bug was fixed - I suspect by ignoring the setting to avoid using the iffy code. It never was a real problem anyway - it was just the router doing what it was told to do - block a stream of requests from the same source.
