Hi,

We have an Ambit 256 Virgin Media modem connected to a Netgear WPN824 wireless router.

I get various losses of connection throughout the day, resulting in me needing to reset both the modem and the router.

I have tried swapping out the wireless router with two alternative wireless routers (a Level 1 router and an Edimax router) but all seem to have the same problem which has left me confused and leads to only one thing - the modem!

Here are my stats:

Cable Modem Downstream
Downstream Lock : Locked
Downstream Channel Id : 29
Downstream Frequency : 315000000 Hz
Downstream Modulation : QAM256
Downstream Symbol Rate : 6952 Ksym/sec
Downstream Interleave Depth : taps12Increment17
Downstream Receive Power Level : 1.1 dBmV
Downstream SNR : 41.4 dB

Cable Modem Upstream
Upstream Lock : Locked
Upstream Channel ID : 4
Upstream Frequency : 45800000 Hz
Upstream Modulation : QPSK
Upstream Symbol Rate : 5120 Ksym/sec
Upstream transmit Power Level : 42.7 dBmV
Upstream Mini-Slot Size : 4

Are these within spec?

Also getting this in the event log:

Thu Feb 17 14:28:36 2011 Thu Feb 17 14:28:36 2011 Critical (3) DHCP WARNING - Non-critical field invalid in response.

The issue is getting very annoying now as it happens every single day but just wanted something concrete to go to VM with.

Hope someone can help!

Regards

Your power levels are spot on, try a direct connection to rule out both routers as they are unsupported equipment.

I had some probs with connectivity on 10Gb

call center suggested the direct connection - worked fine if you did this

my wireless router was also 'unsupported'

now I've got a supported one probs all seem to have gone away

also might be a good idea to change the wireless router IP address from 192.168.0.1 if that's the default to 192.168.1.1

All the Netgear routers are 192.168.1.1 and the D Link DIR615 and both hubs use 192.168.0.1 by default.

All 3rd party routers are unsupported but usually a reboot in sequence gets you back online, power down both turn modem on let it settle for 2 minutes then turn on router this usually works.
