View Full Version : Whats Your MPG

So with the stupidly high fuel prices we have at the moment I want to see if the MPG I’m getting from my Mondeo ST 2.2 TDCI is any good.

I’m getting 38 MPG driving like an old man.

Can I have the make and model of your motor and what MPG you’re getting please, just so I can compare for a peace on mind that I’m not doing bad on the fuel consumption

Renaultsport Magane 175dci Lux, (2 litre turbo diesel with 175bhp), average round town= 40 mpg but if I drive like I'm following a funeral precession I can get 50+ mpg

On the motorway draughting like a nascar driver I can touch 70mpg

I'd say 58mpg is more than respectable

My personal car is a fiat 500 which gets me between 44-48 MPG used 99% of the time for shortish city journeys.

Work car is either a 1.6 or 1.8 diesel focus which can get me about 45-50 MPG driving normally, albeit in a lower gear than I'd drive my own car in. Of course when the foot goes down that drops dramatically. Thats for virtually all city stop/start driving.

Vauxhall Zafira, 1.9CDTi (120BHP version) ... about 46MPG when driving like the proverbial old duffer in a flat cap. If I get all leaden footed then it drops to 40.

On the bikes I can do anywhere from 50-90mpg (depends on the bikes) but the worse we ever got was about 8-12mpg on a landrover with a supercharged V8 4.2L

Envious that I’m not getting 40 +, 37 - 38 and driving very sensibly.

I have thought about getting it chipped which supposed to increase the MPG, has anyone chipped there car for the MPG?

Not at all the lowest average i have had is 29.4 mph but then most of my journeys are on motorways, i flawed it to Wales at Christmas and it was still 29.4 mph which i am pleased about considering it does 0-60 in 6.2 seconds.

My Audi A6 1.9TDi tiptronic gets about 35mpg around town, and can go up to 50-55mpg on the motorway at a steady 65mph.

I usually have the boot full of a wheelchair (for my other half) and work bits though, if its empty I've seen 60mpg on a old-grandads-foot 55mph on the motorway (drafting behind dads caravan :D)

The worst MPG I've ever had was my 1991 Range Rover 4.2V8 (JE Engineering Special with 250bhp) that did between 8-10MPG (about 100miles betweeen a full tank and empty tank...you really did see the gauge move if you watched it while it was stood in traffic) if I was light footed...and about 2 if I floored it :( its gone now, poor thing I loved it

Bodyweight is nothing...its all aluminium :)

Heaviest bits are Chassis and Engine (steel block engine due to it being diesel)

Citroen C4 Exclusive 1.6 HDi 6 speed semi automatic sequential gearbox. This gives around 55 mpg just running about and around 70 mpg on long motorway runs.

Normally an automatic is thirstier than a manual but this model has better fuel consumption. It helps having a large inbuilt sat nav system that also displays the number of miles you should be able to drive before empty, current mpg and average mph from new. Two further screens can be used as trips showing miles since reset, mpg since reset and average mph since reset. The current mpg is constantly changing dependant on road speed, gear, terrain. It really shows up how your driving affects fuel consumption and the best way to drive. It's amazing when you are doing 70mph+ and seeing well over 100mpg.

£249 worth the extra MPG? Very tempted.

I take it no one has done it from my eailer post

I'd be sceptical that it could deliver a worthwhile improvement. It's much easier to see how software tweaks could improve performance such as power, accelleration etc but economy? Maybe a bit, but I don't know.

Also remember that engine mods like this are most definitely the sort of thing an insurer should be told about and would almost certainly raise your premium.

That should increase slightly after 50k miles when the engine is run in :) Just as a side note - what's it like to drive? I've had my eye on C30's for a while but I'm having trouble convincing the mrs...I'd need a diesel though.

You'd be better phoning superchips and asking advice on this, as they are the experts, and I'd be a bit cautious of the cheapness of the £249 one for an increase in MPG. Superchips normally charge about £550 for professional remaps, and as Chris states, your insurance may be invalidated in the event of a claim if you don't advise them (and pay any additional premium due).

Ford Focus CMax 54 plate 2.0 TDCI 6 Speed

Motorway = normaly around 45 though best I had was 62mpg. That run was on the M4 coming back from Wales, cruise control set to 60 and car carrying the family and luggage.

Around town = 28 - 34 mpg. Depends who is driving ;)

I will say that I check tyre pressure once a week and oil change every three months

Depends what I'm driving

Peugeot Expert E7 "Teepee" (that's the version with extra roofspace) 2.0 HCDI (or something like that) gets about 25-30 around town depending on just how short the job is ;) I've achieved 35 on a better day with a few longer runs and I've never been on the motorway in it to compare, it does have a 6-speed Gearbox though.

Fiat Doblo 1.9TDI - This one's pretty good really, it has an extra high roof to accommodate wheelchair passengers (that's people strapped in in wheelchairs sat in the back) so it's not very aerodynamic and tends to tip a bit on high roads with a light breeze :erm: anywho, somehow, all this taken into account, it manages about 45mpg around town and I've seen 60 on a run.

Ford Tourneo Connect (Driver + 6 Passengers/Wheelchair) 2.0TDCI, given the additional weight of the seats and considering usually when I drive it, I do a lot of multiseater work around town, the 35MPG I've seen out of it could be worse, haven't done a lot of Long Distance driving in this but it manages in the high 50s.

Vauxhall Corsa 1.0 Breeze (997cc WITH Air Conditioning!!!)
What a freak of nature this car is, less than 1000cc compression and it manages to run an Air Con pump/compressor without making it undriveable up hill. Am convinced this car runs on magic.

I'm also more concerned of them trading on the motec name, we use motec and they are the best in ECU management in the racing world, but their UK office is in banbury, there's no sign of this motec performance on their website nor is the site registered to them.. Also motecperformance doesn't appear onthe companies register..

Will ask my partner regarding this as they've been working in this field for 20+ years

Partner says for a company to have to use a similar name as Motec normally means that they have no reliable product of their own, but the beauty of the internet is that you can hunt round the car forums and see if anyone has used them and what they say instead of trying to rely on testimonials on their own site
