Hi there,

Yesterday we had a virgin package installed, with tv, phone and broadband bundle. We were previously on talktalk, and had a wireless router that enabled us to get wireless internet upstairs, with main computer wired directly to the D-link.
Virgin has installed their new router/modem - they gave us the mega 50mb - connected to the tv in the lounge, but reassured us that our wireless connection would be strong everywhere in the house.

However, although the main computer is able to search for the virgin network, and can connect to it, the signal strength is 'poor', and we cannot connect to the internet at all. Our laptop can receive a strong connection in the same room as the main computer, with internet fine and no problems.

I don't understand why our main computer cannot receive an internet connection at all, when the modem is so strong, and when the laptop can receive it in the same place. OP is Windows XP.

Any ideas? Help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Could be that your wireless card is poor quality, did you get a free wireless dongle with installation? You could plug that in and see what kind of signal you get. If you never got one then call 150 or visit http://community.virginmedia.com/ to order one for free.

Also do a windows update on the xp machine if you can, sometimes you have to choose optional updates and update the drivers of your wireless card to connect to the superhub

The old DWA-120 adapter supplied for free on 50mb was a bit naff, dunno about the new one. Most desktop computers have their wireless antennas at the bottom rear of the machine surrounded by hoards of metal shielding, which makes signal pretty naff too.

And some people have said the Superhub's wireless strength is pretty poor to begin with.
