Unlimited UK landline calls for £5 per month in addition to line rental. Includes calls to 0870 and 0845 numbers, caller display, 1571, and 1471. When are Virgin going to do something similar. I really am thinking of switching. I have anytime with Virgin but this does not include premium numbers.

Virgin line rental is cheaper than BT. As far as the call charges are concerned if you don't make many calls to non-geo numbers it's a good deal. Also if you are considering switching, is your BT line still connected. If you don't have a dial tone and you only want to switch your phone service, they will charge £130 for reactivation of the line. This is only waived if you tie yourself into an 18 month contract and commit to making a certain number of calls a month..

Not true. The OP was talking about the 'unlimited' package which is better with BT because it offers free calls to 0845 and 0870 which Virgin Media does not.

Current charges are as follows:

Line rental £12.24 with Virgin Media and £13.60 with BT. It should be noted that this charge can be as low as £10 with BT if you take the Line Rental Saver option.

Unlimited calls is £8 with Virgin Media and only £5 with BT. The cost with BT can be reduced by taking various 'renewable contract' offers which reduce the monthly charge equivalent to £3.75!

In the worst case for BT, they are still cheaper for unlimited calls (£18.60 compared to £20.24) but BT can cost as little as £13.75 per month for unlimited calls.

Now that VM have upgraded their broadband and TV offerings maybe its time they followed suit with their phone packages.

They seem to force a phone line on their customers yet it is the one service they fail to maintain or compete with!

I use say No to 0870 website. I nearly always find an alternative number.

Don't forget that with the VM phone line you also get the minimum TV service free ..
