The Walking Dead tells the story of the aftermath of a zombie apocalypse and follows a small group of survivors traveling across the country in search of a new home away from the hordes of zombies. The group is led by Rick Grimes, who was a police officer in the old world. As their situation grows more and more grim, the group's desperation to survive pushes them to do almost anything to stay alive.

It's based upon the ongoing comic of the same name (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Walking_Dead), and has been brought to TV by Frank Darabont (Shawshank, Green Mile) and Gale Anne Hurd (Terminator, Aliens).

Just back from a preview screening in Glasgow.

It's immense, gory, funny, sometimes a bit moving and leaving plenty of directions for the plots to go in. The walkers aren't 28 days later fast but not the shambling ones you could walk away from without breaking a sweat.

Basically everything you could want from a zombie TV show.

What? No other comments? Come on people!

Not sure how it was received here, but it's had rave reviews from the critics in the US, and the pilot episode achieved AMC's best ever ratings.

If you missed it on FX on Friday night, it is repeated at 10pm on Sunday, and again at 11pm on Monday & Wednesday.

Saw the first 5 episodes so far and I'm really enjoying it, really impressed with the quality too.

Channel 5 are going to start showing it from next spring

Channel 5 will be broadcasting the TV incarnation of The Walking Dead comic series next Spring.

The six-part show debuted on US television this Autumn and it's proved something of a hit. A second season has already been commissioned

Oh noes only 6 episodes. And just as I was getting into it too.

I know, best on TV by a country mile.

I can understand the reasoning by hind a short initial run.

Next season will be 12 episodes, they should have gone for 18.

And a whole new writing team too - Daramont having reportedly fired them all in a bid to keep thing fresh.

Robert Kirkman said that was a lie.

Kirkman said that? I read he'd said it was unfortunate and premature?

---------- Post added at 20:51 ---------- Previous post was at 20:46 ----------

I'm taking this back and correcting myself after digging deeper. Seems someone's left and a site has mis-reported the whole thing.

I think that's probably a good thing going off this first run.

This is a bit confusing now.

http://www.aceshowbiz.com/news/view/00037215.html

This article first says:
"The Walking Dead" producers are debunking the rumor about staff firing and confirming a Fall comeback at the same time. Gale Ann Hurd who works with Frank Darabont as executive producers said the story originating from Deadline is not true, saying his co-worker is not firing the writers staff for the option of freelancers.

And then:
When asked about any truth at all, Kirkman said, "It's a little premature to be nailing down. I don't know if it's going to be a freelance situation or if we're going to have writers in a writers' room. That's something that's being worked on now."

Even if it did have a whole new "writing team", I don't think it would be an issue.

Darabont is apparently a very hands-on showrunner. He fully wrote two of the six episodes, and co-wrote or re-wrote the rest. Two were also written by people not on the main writing team, including Kirkman.

Oh well, that's the end of that discussion then.
