My problem is that i need to get on to http://192.168.1.1 and every time i try to get on it it just says the page doesn't exist and there is no way i can get on there.
I have also tried using a variety of different web browsers like Firefox, google chrome and Internet Explorer.
My routers code is BR - 6004 W-G1 if that helps....
Any help would be very appreciated :)
you sure it's 192.168.1.1 and not 192.168.0.1 ??
Check your gateway setting on the lan card and that should be the IP address you need for your router
In the Start menu click on the run icon.
Then type CMD, then press return
then at the prompt type IPCONFIG/ALL, then press return
On the displayed list read the IP for the DEFAULT GATEWAY.

Googleing BR - 6004 W-G1 gives that this is a Dynamode router, which should have address 192.168.1.1.
Maybe an obvious question, are you connected to the router via an ethernet cable?

Could also be 192.168.2.1 (Belkin)
Some even went in the 10.x.x.x range ;)
Remember to check your own IP, if it's a 169.x.x.x address then it hasn;t picked up the dhcp from the router will not not be on the same subnet so won;t communicate with 192.168.1.1.. You'll need to manually enter an address on the same subnet like 192.168.1.2 with a subnet of 255.255.255.0 (gateway and dns shouldn't matter at this point in time)

gateway is required soimetime dns isnt unless oyu plan on using static io
Not to access an IP on the same subnet.. Which is what the OP's question was about
