Hi everyone.
I have VM 10MB from january 2010.
For over six months I enyojed plaing xbox live without any problems. Since 2 - 3 months I am experiencing a problems when playing online (freezing), everyone just disconnect as this is very annoying.
I have received 2 new D link 615 routers and nothing has changed.
When doing speed test download usually is over 8 - 9 MB, ping about 35 - 60
or on ping test.net is ping 20 - 30 to jigger 5 - 15 with grade A, only after restarting the modem. After while everything increase and I cannot play online any more. Does anyone can help me?
Today I upgraded to 20MB to check if will be any better, but it is worts, as download speed is even below 5MB.
My cousin is using a talk talk DSL broadband with max speed of 4mb, and he does not have this problems.

Ive heard that, its the dongles that plug into the xbox tht seem to be the worst

Never had an issue ever with my dongle (ooer missus) and this has been on 2 different 360's and 3 different broadband suppliers.
It's usually the routers to blame.
I even moved house and before my Virgin was connected I 'borrowed' a neighbours connection so the dongle has always been rock steady

This is cable connection, not wireless

Ok basics first, this is a starter for ten, remove the router and connect your PC to the modem directly then run a speedtest.

Are the results different ?

It's also worth posting the stats from the modem and posting them as one of the technically minded on here may be able to offer an opinion as to whether it is the connection itself or the equipment (ie the modem or router)

That's not been my experience.

They're using very high quality networking hardware in the dongles and because they're so directly integrated into the console's software they work very well.

What you have posted looks fine, where's the upload?

orukasek

Upload:

Why then if I make one test is fine, and after I make another one is becomingh **** like 2mb download speed with pings going over couple of hundreds?

I really do not understand. It looks to me the signal is not solid.

Upload is within spec as well.

Any test you run you should specify and also do connected directly to the modem so as to take a router problem out of the equasion.

tests done one after each other. does not looking solid.

now i connected netgear wgr 614 v9. my xbox live looks better but please look at the speed tests. 1 - 2mb out of 20mb. on d link 615 test are simillar as just on the virgin modem.

after resetting is fine, 5 minutes after it is going down again.

if the tests are fine why xbox live is freezing?

Speedtests should be undertaken without the router.

orukasek
27-10-2010, 16:03
i know. the previous ones are done without the router.
Test with and without are more less the same. I do not complain about speed of the internet of my internet on my pc, but problem with playing games on xbox live.
why if the test results are goodfor you on xbox are not good enough, and my cousin have talk talk with max 4mb download speed and he does not have any problems with it?

is it the problem with the line or maybe the virgin modem? customer service says that the results are good in their opinion but i am not satisfied with it

So far you have given very little to go on.

Look here (http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/12/26006-cable-modem-signal-levels.html)and post back.

If you are using Windows open up command prompt and type tracert www.bbc.co.uk.
Your power level seems to have dropped.

orukasek
27-10-2010, 19:52
I have been screwing dB "things" to lower it the power level.
Tracert www.bbc.co.uk below:

I spoken to VM customer service again, and the Indian fella said there are some maintanance work going on in my area, but I do not believe this as opposite neighbout do not have any problems at all, and my problem is going on over 2 months now.

They will nearly always make up an excuse, There is definitely a problem which im sure somebody on here will be able to tell you what it is. If you want to talk to somebody from the UK your best shot is to phone just after 8AM.

I run my 120GB Elite with the standard Wifi and have no problems.

Have you tried giving the XBox a static IP?

No I did not. I do not understand that bloody D-link router settings. I got used to netgear as was very easy. But will give a try. Have you got any instruction how to set up the xbox and router for a static IP?

I am running on cable my xbox 360.

I have VM from January 2010. First 6 - 7 months was fine, after problems started, on PC I could stand it as downloading and browsing is not to bad.
When problems started I was checking connection everywhere and I found that I had my cable connected to next door neighbour. Then I arranged new connection. They provided me with new cable about 3 weeks ago. I had also VM engineer who was running the tests. He said the signal is fine, but when I show him how the games freezing on xbox live he was shocked and he could not give me an answer where is the problem. He left me with the problem and virgin does not care.
I used to have a talk talk and I had simillar situation that after while connection for xbox became lower (they were saying that "exchange" is 2 miles away and this is the reason why my internet is so slow), then I switched to VM.
